@feld what triggers me the most is that people will vote for a literal Sleepy Crook Joe who's on God knows how many pills as to be even able to breathe. Hell, there's pics of this dude literally asleep during important meetings. He forgets his own name, for fucks sake!
@Moon@vhns how would his "enemies" detonate it? they wouldn't have any power.
We don't have protections for what happens if someone who wants to dismantle America becomes President and fills the seats of so many high level positions with stooges who will disregard our laws, constitution, etc. We don't have a system in place to really address that when we no longer have a clear separation of powers. What do you do when the enforcers are all in on it? Way worse than the normal levels of corruption because it's mask off at that point.
I could definitely see things happening that can never be undone which leads to some real instability and violence.
Instead I'll just keep hoping Joe steps out and we find someone a few decades younger with less experience in corruption to run.
@feld@vhns > how would his "enemies" detonate it? they wouldn't have any power.
His last administration would have gone completely differently if the presidency wasn't beholden to the permanent government that persists across all administrations. Maybe this time he'd be "more serious" but I believe that if he attempted that they would just exert the necessary force to stop him again, which would actually be "mask off"
@Moon@vhns like how is it healthy to elect a dude arguing in court right now that he should be able to do political assassinations and not be held accountable. That's crazy. We don't need more crazy shit like that.
@feld@vhns this is another case where trump is saying out loud what previous administrations have said through actual actions. we already do that. we have since...forever.
@Moon@vhns Which Presidents executed extrajudicial murders of which American citizens on US soil?
I think you're referring to stuff like the drone strikes which is really stretching for a comparison. It's fucked up but true that it's legal, but it's not that different from all the cops murdering people and saying "there was a credible threat" if you think about it. Same type of justification, really.
@feld@vhns I honest to god don't know how you can't see their hyperbolic reactions bother during his presidency and after, combined with everything they say about coordinating to stop him, wouldn't lead you to believe that they'd just orchestrate a coup. the new york times would say the coup was to protect democracy.
