There's an internal stat that I saw the other day which I'm mulling. 61% of what Medium pays goes from a subscriber to someone they directly follow.

Is that healthy? There are a lot of tradeoffs to consider inside that number.

How about mulling over the stats of new Medium subscribers who are coming on board and then using an AI site that lets them follow up to 30,000 accounts in one day, and lets them subscribe for our stories by email when they become a follower.
They can't scrape Medium but by email subscription they can easily steal our content.
We are reduced to checking every email subscriber to see if they use the AI site, reporting the account for spam and blocking them
We are being swamped by AI

I'd guess that most subscribers would be fine with the majority of their subscription fees going to support the writers they prefer. My only concern would be about people using this to game the system somehow.
