This bullshit going on reminds me about something that happened on the Fedi a few years back about how this popular tankie dude was trying to debunk the poverty draft with some study from the Cato Institute that didn't say what he thought it said.
I really need internet leftists to understand that the US military grooms children, and has admitted to there being a poverty draft.
If you are a USian who never considered joining the military (or at least would consider it if you could), then you're fucking privileged.
...and I need people to incorporate that into their analysis when they talk about these things, in addition to just stop fucking moralizing and expecting perfection out of people doing a brave act. Which is what this was.

Sometimes it takes people a while to learn and understand. Once they do, they need to be encouraged and welcomed.
Organizations like Veterans for Peace and About Face are critical. Often people who have been exploited by the war machine come out of it deeply scarred, with brutal regrets. They need support and healing.
They need a way OUT.
We need as many of them as possible beside us, when the ones who don't make it out are called upon to turn their weapons on us.
@salad_bar_breath There are people who go to prison out of moral dignity in countries where there is compulsory service. Military people can not be anarchists, except in suicide.

B) No. Working for a particular organisation and being legally forced to do something are not the same.

@livinghell@Vorsos@salad_bar_breath the US is not, by far, the only country whose taxes are being funnelled to Israel. If you live in one of the places that isn't doing that, lucky you, but don't presume an accident of birth makes you better than others.
Also no, people aren't legally forced into the US military. Sometimes the options are military or DEATH. And yet you're afraid of fines or a few years of prison time? How is that more of a sacrifice to not pay taxes?
