@jackhutton@Dahlialith The real question is how intelligent people can be so dumb. It's not hard. "Don't accept opportunities for personal enrichment that are made available to you because of your tenure in a public office but that would not reasonably be available to a person not occupying such a position." Can they really be so dumb as to not get that, or so arrogant as to think no one will catch them?
@jackhutton@Dahlialith And the infuriating thing is that they don't see how it fuels the rise of bipartisan populism: "Their elites get away with it, so our elites should get away with it!" And so the cycle repeats with cynicism increased everywhere it touches. It makes me furious. The way to restore norms is to restore norms. One rule for everyone, rich and poor alike. If a corporal in the army would be jailed for what Hillary Clinton did, she should be jailed; if an office clerk would be jailed for what Donald Trump did, he should be jailed. Otherwise, how can we be surprised when populist grifters gain traction among the corporals and office clerks?
