Let me make one thing Crystal clear. I do not object to paying for things so long as the cost is reasonable. One dollar for a candy bar, fine. $25 for an entire box of candy bars, fine. 3500+ dollars for a headset that barely does anything, not fine. $60 a year to open an app and read a book, also not fine.
@cj I would think you were wasting that money and can spend it on other things. You could get a refurbished fire tablet for 40, get your app for 10 after loading the store, and still come out $10 better off.
@evilcookies98 True, but if it's worth it to me to avoid that inconvenience then I might be willing to shell out $60 a year.
BTW, I am planning to check out Book Player and Speech Central to see if they'll fit my needs. I'm not planning to subscribe to Voice Dream since my use case for it doesn't justify me spending that much money and with some minor inconveniences, I can find an app for less that meets my needs. I can see where others in different situations though would be OK with shelling out that much money.
@patricus I wouldn’t call it wasting money. I think it’s good to know how to use more than one platform. You never know when you’re going to have to, like now if people want to read their books in peace.
@evilcookies98 I mean, it's good but not everyone has moolah to do that, droid old hardware is so bad that I could probably need to write my own screenreader to work with it.
@patricus i’ve got a device from 2019, and I’ve got a fire tablet. Either of those would work. The fire tablet would take a couple of extra steps, but it would still work.
@evilcookies98 I agree here, look at IOS 17.4 and macOS 14.4 (borked edition) because borked edition is the best way to actually describe it without going really vulgar here.
@patricus everybody needs some thing they can fall back on because they’re not going to straighten their act up. They’ve had years to straighten their act up, and have they done it? No.
@patricus OK, so you wouldn’t have seen one of the ugliest bugs that has been present for ages. It has to do with the auto scroll. It just randomly quits. I reported it several times, even sent screen recordings, and they acted like I didn’t exist.
@patricus for years. It was one of the ugliest ones on the phone end of things. I know what you mean about the max side though. Then again they haven’t given a crap about that since Mavericks.
@evilcookies98 I mean, macOS sonoma was pretty good before that shit. the ugliest bug on IOS is that my phone randomly stops speaking and I need to restart voiceover because bork.

@patricus in that case I would go with Motorola when you get the chance. That is unless you want to take extra time installing the Google version of the screen reader so you actually get all of the functionality
