@MsHearthWitch With all of my posts about that vinyl toile, and accompanying gripes about vinyl being gross, I'm surprised/thankful I was spared.
I can see how if one were approaching their veganism with a particularly Puritanical zeal that leather would be a sinful product. Simultaneously, I know at least two vegans who wear leather all of the time.
Personally, I’d rather use a biodegradable animal by-product than a material that will poison the earth for thousands of years.
@elfkin Yeah this person saw fit to tag me after I'd boosted a post. Like... dude.
But yes, I absolutely agree with you RE: leather. Especially as there are so many ways of getting reclaimed leather too. Like old couches, etc. Whereas a vinyl couch that's the same age the "fabric" is absolutely useless.
For myself, rather than take a "animal products are bad cuz climate change!" approach, I approach it from "what is sustainable?" and try to make my best choices.
Is it more sustainable and better for the planet for me to eat fish from my local fishery share? Caught by local families, paid fair and living wages, in the waters around where I live?
Or quinoa from a mono-planted country on the other side of the world paying pennies to the laborers?
