My daily breakfast is very simple plain oatmeal with milk. I know I need to keep some consistency in my diet for my mental health (medication levels but also psychological I guess).

Any suggestions of a simple(!) for breakfast?

These sorts of things seem either too complicated or filled with eggs. https://www.epicurious.com/recipes-menus/easy-passover-breakfast-recipe-ideas-gallery

@sheepchase Try alternatives, but don't forget that your health takes priority. If it's affected, it's alright to return to what works. I never make 8 days any more.

(Rice and wheat/matzo metabolise more quickly than oats, so they're not a 1-for-1 substitute. Adding more protein and/or fat should help.)

@emmaaum That’s good advice, thanks. Last year I decided not to even try because my mental health was still up and down, so if it starts to go that way this year I’ll go back to oats.

Apparently corn flakes are now OK for Conservative Jews (since 2016)!

@sheepchase Yeah, I missed all that :) Only found out when you mentioned rice like that was ok and went to look it up cause I thought rice was in the same category as oats. (I generally avoid rice because it metabolises like a sugar.)

How are you with potatoes? Or are they rare/expensive in Japan?

@emmaaum I was confused (I’m nearly 50, how can I actually not know this) by the fact that the ‘corn’ in cornflakes isn’t the corn in the fields where I grew up…

Potatoes are OK, though yeah they’re not really cheap. I think as I’ve now decided to follow Sephardic rules I can have rice (brown) that should be ok if I mix with something else. But I’ll also get some potatoes too.

@sheepchase Potatoes are slower to metabolise than rice and wheat but faster than oats.
(I have to be careful with this because the faster a food turns into sugar, the more of a stimulant it is and too much stimulant of any sort messes me up.)
I can honestly say I've never thought about what corn flakes are made of until now :D

@emmaaum I do actually prefer potatoes to rice so if I can find some cheapish ones that could be a better option actually. And if I boil more than I need for one meal I can put the rest in the fridge for the next day.

I can imagine how that could mess you up, yeah.

Right?! I mean… it’s in the name but for some reason I thought it wasn’t… what, maize? Sweet corn??

@sheepchase it was weird in the years before i learned this and white rice messed me up. RICE? HOW could that be possible?

it's essentially a different form of sugar.
