@rem do not start from scratch, get yourself an Ethernet cable and two adapters OR a fancy USB-c/Thunderbolt cable and use migration assistant.You’ll thank me later.

@janl I had read that, but … a usbc cable, it's no different to thunderbolt right? Thunderbolt is the connection and proto, not the wiring in the usbc…right?

I tried to do a migration with the cable and the machines decided to connect over wifi instead, couldn't work out how to force it.

@rem yes and no. The connector is standardised as USB-C, but the cable can be anything between usb3 protocol, usb3+power delivery, or Thunderbolt protocol. So it depends on the cable what you can do.

@janl just realised the power cable for the laptop is thunderbolt, so that should work…
