Yes, that is all so promising and we all owe you all for the efforts. I wish we could get to a point where the big funders (and there are many) recognize the need to put this whole project on steroids. With the stakes so high, we shouldn’t be talking about thousands, but rather, millions. And the money is out there. We have to somehow tell it the right story.
@shoq@thisismissem Agreed. Summer of code is maybe not a great model for community-engaged platform development, but as a thought experiment: it would cost on the order of $1 million to hire 50 summer interns.
@bkeegan@shoq 50 interns only makes sense if you've mentors for them. We the core team is maybe 2 developers at any given time, it'd not be possible to take on interns.
Getting that core team boosted in capabilities needs to be the priority, and that requires significant funding.
