Concentrated wealth in a capitalist democracy is like the bowling ball in a demonstration of how gravity works. It reshapes the environment. It's not their fault, they do what everybody else does but the entire political environment gets molded towards their interests. It's unavoidable. It must be fought to keep the system equally responsive to everyone.

The importance of for me is the idea of integrity in the music industry. He could be cruel and apologized later, but his core value was don't be dishonest to get paid. Be truthful to your muse, not trends. Don't support a system where people promote what they think is inferior art for profit.

Beyond music, our culture becomes what we all share the most. To lie is a choice to lessen the collective potential, esp as decentralization gives us all more say.

everything points to one service with all the content, but a lack of competition is very very bad. a decentralized YouTube where viewers funnel money to content creators for time watched has to be the endpoint. we just need the decentralized money transfer protocol/API. #peertube

asking if she considers herself a journalist now and if so, how does she stay objective? She basically says journalists don't need to be objective anymore. I think she's wrong but my bet is most Dems agree. Because is a special threat to our democracy etc etc. But they wouldn't be fine with calling himself a journalist either.

People say government is about power. Get all that you can and forget the losers who can't break the necessary threshold to pass what they want. But that's how we got here. It doesn't sustain a democracy. That approach leads to people not believing each other or news they dislike. Not willing to compromise, not willing to accept losing an election. That's why civility is necessary. Why empathy is required. Our mean political, cable news and social media cultures must be improved.

we do live in a democracy. we don't get all that we want. it could be better, it could be worse. but the people doing the best are profiting off of the increasing callousness. trying to make people more resentful, angry and fearful. they want the divisiveness to continue or get worse, but if that happens, we will devolve into one of the alternatives that you seem to prefer (anarchy or dictatorship), and the vast majority of people will be much worse off. they want us to give up on civics.

I've been browsing the "For You" algo on to try to find people to ask to turn on sharing, and it's a nightmare. I don't know if they are bots or real people, but they post the dumbest shit. I don't follow anyone there so the algo probably has no idea what to give me. Perhaps nicer than but I'm not going to check.

but we know other diseases are more transmissible and/or deadly than the flu. if you're admitting staying inside and wearing masks reduced flu deaths, why isn't it likely that what we did also reduced the deaths we otherwise would have had from COVID by 90%? that they were as high as reported but would have been even worse. I don't get your argument. the counted COVID deaths might be true and only 10% of what was possible if we did nothing.

My position on $FOREIGN_WAR

  1. Fuck every government involved
  2. The people are the victiims
  3. The politicians and their puppetmasters are the perpetrators
  4. Following on 1 and 2, the people should stop fighting each other and look toward their real enemies.
  5. The USA should not be involved and needs to butt out.
