@Ryanteck Hmmm. "Because EVs catch fire". Nope, they don't! They have thermal runaway, which is not a fire even if it resembles one.

Do ICU "cars catch fire more often"? I don't know but I suspect, given how many there are, they might in numeric terms. But you can put out a petrol fire "easily". Thermal runaway, on the other hand, very much not so easy.

Caveat: I'm not a fireman. My brother is. They hate dealing with EV (and eBikes, eScooters) "fires".

My next car, soon, will be an EV.

@NormanDunbar Usually when compared they use the Per 1000 figures or such so theoretically shouldn't matter how many on the roads due to that.

But as you said when they do happen it's harder to put out,

@Ryanteck I was wondering if the figures were "per xxx" as it makes no mention.

Putting out is a huge problem. Keeping out can be worse as the buggers can "reignite" almost at will. Is "rethermal runaway" a proper term? 😁

PS. I still use my gadget you sold me for my Pi 1b to talk to it over the serial console! 👍

@NormanDunbar @Ryanteck oh geez… missed that… I stopped at “until the sprinkler system is improved” I am like, dude, if you were unfortunate to have an EV battery pack catch fire in the parking lot, sprinkling water would be a lot worse for everyone involved!

@piofthings @Ryanteck Nah, it's worse putting water on a fuel fire. You have to quench EV "fires" with tonnes of water. For weeks! 😐
