@khalidabuhakmeh as a small seed/self funded startup, at about 25-30 Jira+Confluence+Bitbucket accounts you are calculating will it be cheaper to run a self hosted Gitlab server on a cheap vpcโ€ฆ speaking from experience! But I guess we are not the targets!

@khalidabuhakmeh oh yeah, that was just the starter! AWS has a Jupyter notebook thingy! Someone started an instance and closed it when done! Two months and $$$ later, apparently that started some neptune DB instance that was still running! Ditto with an LLM thing. Service started, project done, Service stopped! Two months later something called OpenSearch is costing $$$!!!

Has anyone managed to use the NVMe base board by directly loading OS on to the NVME drive? Or do I really have to do the dance of loading OS on SD card first? @geerlingguy @gadgetoid

@geerlingguy thanks, can I just load OS in the NVME drive like that and expect the Pi to boot straight up? Or do I need to follow the "Installing your OS onto the NVMe SSD" in this guide https://learn.pimoroni.com/article/getting-started-with-nvme-base , to the letter? @gadgetoid

@geerlingguy have you experimented with rack mounting RPi 5 with bottom mounted NVMe hat (like the Pimoroni one)? Is a bit niche, but checking to see before I start designing a 3D Printed mount ๐Ÿซฃ

@geerlingguy i think Iโ€™ll use the uctronics shelf but redo the removable trays and 3D print them. Only if their hex nuts were removable and not welded in we could have used smaller hex nuts and maintained the height to fit the front panel!

So I stuck cloudflare in front of all my sites and I am feeling terribly icky about it, because I seem to have lost control of my https certificates. Wonder if Letsencrypt will ever work again because I stupidly set https only and I can't find where to disable the setting. Oh well, Mastodon, let's see if you can ddos me.

Time to run my horrifying python code that builds a bash script that I use to repeatedly call some fortran code and make output I pull back into python for calculating telescope pointings.

My deepest apologies to everyone here who actually has training in making good software. I'm doing science!

(And no, I'm not looking for advice. Hilariously, this dumpster fire of code works well enough, and I don't need to improve it right now.)

It is getting harder and harder to use Facebook as a developer.

I use it for Single Sign On for https://OpenBenches.org - because I don't want to handle usernames & passwords.

Now it is demanding that I create a "business portfolio" to continue.

(Don't come at me with "delete Facebook" unless you can show me how to do OAuth with every Fediverse server in PHP.)

@Edent I daresay Okta but 1. They are a bit dodgy about breach disclosures, 2. Not everyone will want to setup a new Okta account 3. At some point jt wonโ€™t be free for you. 4. I havenโ€™t checked Okta with php, my bad. So I guess for this usecase FB is necessary evil?

@revk wait till you have different days for different bins! We have green bins (that are paid for outside council tax) for garden, black bins for landfill, separate food waste caddy, orange boxes for paper/cardboard/glass, blue reusable bag for plastic and metal! Let me see if I remember the days: green bin first, on a Wednesday, then recyling and food on Thursday, next Thursday Black bin and Food caddy again. Wahey!
