Picked up the lovely French trio again and delivered them to the concert hall. It was dusk so the cockies were deafening, which amused them no end. Looking forward to hearing them do Beethoven tonight, once I've wrangled all the nannas in and out of the lift.

@sister_ratched How many nannas can you fit in the lift at the same time? I was once one of 15 in a VW Beetle.

@MarkAsser Lol. Depends entirely on walking frames and wheelchairs... how many of those were in the Beetle with you?

MarkAsser,
@MarkAsser@beige.party avatar

@sister_ratched None. This was a very long time ago...

@MarkAsser @sister_ratched I was in a VW Beetle that rolled on a dirt road outside Wagga...with 5 adults in it. Well, young adults. Young, stupid adults. The driver had been very stupid indeed and didn't know how to drive on gravel roads. 2 of those people are now Nanas. (I am old enough to be a Nana but only qualify on honorary grounds.) 1 is a Grandpa... and 1 is no longer with us, having continued to display poor judgement in driving matters.

@caity Yikes. Fortunately the VW I was crammed into was parked in so nobody was going to try to move it.

About 30 years ago I missed out on being in a car that failed to take a corner and slammed into a building in Hindmarsh. Four dead. I've been wary of cars, and quite a few drivers, ever since.

@MarkAsser @sister_ratched No wonder you don't drive.

MarkAsser,
@MarkAsser@beige.party avatar

@caity @sister_ratched Yes, that's why. I did have a learner's permit in 1999 (only because of deathbed nagging from Dad), and had one lesson which I hated. Decided that it was not worth the stress.

@MarkAsser @sister_ratched My Sister never held a driver’s license her entire life. She apparently rode a moped in Taipei for a while, but gave that up, citing most people’s casual observation of the “traffic suggestions” rather than road rules. Very sensible.
She did sometimes sneakily drive one of the ferries in Sydney Harbour very early in the morning, one her way home from her Post Office sorting job, early on - but we won’t tell anyone that the ferry driver let her do that, will we?

@caity @sister_ratched "Traffic suggestions" reminds me of a few places I've been. They helped me come to my no-driving position.

Though I must admit, driving a harbour ferry would be fun.

@MarkAsser @caity Driving suggestions... yes, good description of most Canberra drivers (they'll book me for road rage one of these days!).

@sister_ratched @caity Many Canbera drivers haven't understood that zebra crossings aren't there for the exclusive use of zebras.

@MarkAsser @sister_ratched @caity I'm looking forward to seeing the uptick in bus passenger numbers as people start losing their licences after being pinged multiple times by the mobile phone detection caneras
