Weather for looking decidedly not amenable to outdoor socializing. Boooo.

@bitprophet Friday rain chances are looking wishy-washy, peaking at 25%. Saturday looks like anything interesting will be done by lunch time. Sunday and Monday look clear. For rust belt in May that’s pretty decent!

bitprophet,
@bitprophet@social.coop avatar

@mpirnat yea true I’m probably over-indexing on “moderate chance rain”, guess we’ll see!

@mpirnat @bitprophet the forecast volumes are looking very low too so could just be passing showers 🤞

@bitprophet Not with that attitude. I'm not above eating in the rain.

Seriously though, hoping at least one of the hotels has a decent courtyard or something.

bitprophet,

@jonafato Yea, hoping. Or restaurants, I reckon. I know one place near the Westin seemingly has little bubble-pods for outdoor seating (which has its own issues, but).

Started snooping around Street View looking for possible "public-ish but covered” places to have unmasked hangouts with folks if it does rain.

Then realized, oh right. Nobody else gives any shits anymore. They'll all be indoors.

Deffo bringing some books with me & hoping the hotel room's cozy 🥴

Similarly depressingly, one imagines most non-rainy public-ish spaces in/near the downtown of a US city will be largely populated by homeless folks anyways 😖 cannot imagine they would be pleased by a passel of well-off computer-touchers yakking it up where they're just trying to survive.

@bitprophet YOU CALL THAT RAIN

But seriously, I’ll chill with you in the rain, it probably won’t surprise you that I’m pretty used to it by now 😂

ehmatthes,
@ehmatthes@fosstodon.org avatar

@ghickman @bitprophet I'd be happy to find a place outside to hang out as well.

lorenipsum,
@lorenipsum@fosstodon.org avatar

@bitprophet For what it's worth, there's a covered outdoor terrace over the river in the convention center itself, just opposite the expo hall/general sessions room.

bitprophet,
@bitprophet@social.coop avatar

@lorenipsum yea I expect a lot of non booze related socializing will happen in the CC's outdoor and rooftop spaces!

hugovk,
@hugovk@mastodon.social avatar

@bitprophet Nicky's Thai Kitchen has covered outdoor seating and good food. It's quite close to the venue.

bitprophet,
@bitprophet@social.coop avatar

@hugovk nice, thanks! I will happily consume a) Thai food and b) any other suggestions you have 😂

I'll share one place I already found on my own yelp'ing, which is Bridges & Bourbon nearby also on Penn. tho their covered seating looks a little claustrophobic?

@bitprophet I think I saw B&B this evening, with the little greenhouses outside. They did look cosy :)
