Centralized platforms have been so ubiquitous that if something bad would happen with mastodon.social, most (if not many) people would just quit Mastodon (and the Fediverse) instead

Also the media would point any problems with mastodon.social to Mastodon itself

Edit #2: I was mostly referring to folks from mastodon.social. I'm pretty sure people joining a different server know there are other servers as well where they can move in case things go bad.

No, I thought about it the other way around.

anyway whichever number that is won't include me.

That's great 😁

Vilian,

i don’t think so, fediverse users know about descentralization and to switch instances, also twitter are still doing shit but there’s alot of people still there

petrescatraian,

@Vilian Many people don't know anything about other decentralized services than Mastodon, I wouldn't be surprised if some people would know that mastodon.social is Mastodon and that's it.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough, I was referring about people that are on mastodon.social alone (and perhaps it's not most, but just many). I'm sure nobody joining a different server wouldn't know there are other servers as well.

Also, probably the media would point to any issues on mastodon.social as being issues with Mastodon itself.

(I'll update the post of my end, hope it gets through).
