and Advent of Code 2023

Last year I did have too much time on my hand, and while I spent a lot of time chilling, I did miss using my brain at least a little.
So I worked on these two challenges.

Anyone else interested in doing some low-level coding this fall? It's Nibbly November!

For some stupid reason, I added elisp to my . I wrangled my way through.

All my other languages were quite sensible.

> Which programming language you no longer use and why?

My answer would be COBOL. It was a weird part of my life. It is over now. No, need to cry over it. LOL. What about you?

@nixCraft COBOL featured this month on exercism’s challenge in Jurassic July.

mifuyne, to programming in What projects are you working on at the moment?

employers don’t necessarily care how good your code is (as a junior dev)

Maybe this is what I needed to hear to breathe a little easier, that employers won't focus too hard on it. I know if I make it open source, I could get some feedback on the code too. I just hope it's constructive and not unnecessarily harsh!

I have a lot to learn still but that’s okay.

We never stop learning, and I'm glad for that. I think that's partly why I enjoy programming/coding. I always feel like I'm learning something new, even when I'm writing code I've written before. I actually like going to Code Abbey and doing some of the challenges there. Also, the exercism challenge felt right up my alley. I love learning new languages, even if they frustrate the hell out of me!

Good luck with your project!

Thank you! 😊

mifuyne, to programming in Which programming languages do you use?
  • I think Javascript is the language I've spent the most time with throughout my life. I used it to create internal tools at my last job. I'm using it now on a personal project that I plan on adding to my portfolio.
  • Python. I find the syntax tends to be straight to the point. But it's so easy for me to get them mixed up with Javascript. The one that I have to keep going back and looking it up is len(list) vs array.length. Yes...I did have to look it up to make sure I got it right 😞
  • I'm actually going through exercism.org challenge (12 languages in 2023). Out of the new ones I've tried so far, Rust, Red, and Elixir are the ones I'm interested in going back into. Largely out of curiosity. I also like learning new languages because they can help improve my understanding of more general concepts.
