The very idea of a "Files app" is high on my list of world-defeating idiocies perpetrated by technology.

lispi314,

@robpike I would rather maintain that it has been a degradation from the persistent objects which several contemporary systems could use.

Neither did they silo you into solely using them with a particular program though.

But the unix model of has been a nightmare for , and non-transactional filesystems in general for data consistency & integrity.

A served by a broker would be far superior for security and data management.

Problems we are having with #Signal:

  • It is and will remain centralized (clear strategy of not federating servers)
  • It requires strong identifiers/selectors (phone#) to use
  • Author disallows distribution by anyone but Google, although free/libre
  • It keeps pushing away verification of fingerprint in interface
  • It relies on Google+Amazon infrastructure
  • Its funding is shady (OTF = Radio Free Asia = USG)

= clearly unethical choices, unjustifiable by accessibility or technological reasons.

kkarhan,

@jz also @signalapp 's and as well as to enforce (as they collect |s) is inherently bad.

Thus + is still the best option!
