Microsoft has required me to add 2FA to one of my accounts. For some reason the only way to do it is by installing their app. I can't use 1Password, I can't use Authentication (apps I already have). I can ONLY use the Microsoft Authentication application.
An app I'll need to give some permissions to, like camera.
This is such a terrible pattern. I can understand offering your own, but offer the standards compliant one as well. I've ended up using SMS which is terrible.
As i'm forced at work with this... at least here i still use an #TOTP with #FreeOTP+... but enabled a longer time ago... and according what you say, i don't want to try it out now, if it just runs because of some kind of historic setting... ;-)
#Hammer#Softwareempfehlung
I found out that andOTP is now unmaintained, so I decided to find a new home for my OTP for multi-factor authentication or MFA in Android. I wanted to give a try to FreeOTP but I couldn't just restore a backup from one to the other, so I made a migration script from andOTP to FreeOTP (for now only URI format work). Give it a try https://codeberg.org/adelgado/andotp2freeotp #andOTP#FreeOTP#OTP#MFA#Android#Python
@Hawkmoon@arstechnica Hopefully they are using an #opensource alternative; those don't have a perverse incentive to tie the app to an account managed by a member of #GAFAM
@macrumors Prefer ungoogled apps like this: https://freeotp.github.io/ #FreeOTP implements open standards: #HOTP and #TOTP. This means that no proprietary server-side component is necessary: use any server-side component that implements these standards. We recommend FreeIPA.
