I love this piece from Marianne van Dijk's newsletter about Request Blind Spots. It's not just hard to ask for help, sometimes we don't even realise we can.

Until one summer. I was flying to Sardinia for a holiday with my partner at the time. We started to approach the island, the plane was descending and there it was: excruciating pain. But this time, somehow I reacted differently. I think it was a thought popping up that was something like: ‘why suffer?’. As I could barely speak, I asked my partner to call a steward and explain the situation. At first the steward said he didn’t have anything. Then his eyes lit up and he said he might know something and that he would be right back. He returned with two plastic coffee cups and told me to put them on my ear. That's right. I had to place coffee cups on my ears. There were wet, hot tissues in them, that were supposed to relieve the pressure. Just holding cups to my ears like a mad person already made me smile a bit, but I was even more delighted to notice that..it worked! My pain was at least half as bad. And even more so, I got a huge sense of support. So here’s my message to you: ask yourself whenever you are uncomfortable and you are not asking for help: ‘why suffer?” and ‘could this be my Request Blind Spot?’. You might also ask others where they think you are not asking for help when you could.
