Would really love to see Home Assistant/Nabu Casa come out with more hardware in addition to their smart home hubs (even better if it is open source hardware). Maybe a small voice assistant speaker?
So I just got my ESP32-S3-Box-3, flashed it with #ESPHome#voiceassistant for #homeassistant , set up the pipeline with #NabuCasa cloud and the results were.. not great. When it works, it's fine. But it's way too crashy at the moment to be usable unfortunately.
Nothing showing up in the device logs. I added a heartbeat logger just to prove the device itself wasn't crashing. It often completes a task, then sits there with the "speaking house" image on the screen and doesn't accept a subsequent command. I need to reboot it. Any tips, folks?
Despite working in the electronics field, I never really got into #smarthome stuff. But lately I have been trying out #homeassistant and was excited that a friend from Chicago Meetups, @kbx81, has been working at #NabuCasa on the #esphome project.

Yeah, it’s fiddly and geeky and still VERY technical, but WOW is it good! Leaps and bounds above what I was using before. The decision to sign up for #HomeAssistantCloud was a no-brainer.

Okay, all you open source evangelist people: your knee-jerk reaction to come at people who are talking about a problem with whatever commercial software they use and suggest Your Favorite Alternatives™ is exactly like saying "why don't you just buy a house?" to someone complaining about their landlord.

@TechConnectify Not exactly, they provide some cloud services for your money like easy remote access and voice assistant bridging. That said I wouldn’t be shocked if many of their tech savvy customers treat it like a patreon. #homeassistant#NabuCasa
