The jurors for the Peabody Awards, which reward excellence in broadcasting, have announced the nominees in the documentary, news, public service and radio/podcast categories. Deadline has details on who is up for an award, including Oscar winner "20 Days in Mariupol," a look at Clarence and Ginni Thomas's rise to power by "Frontline," and USA Today and The Tennessean's film, "Inside Mississippi’s Maternal Health Crisis."
Story time: Many years ago, the Peabody Award people lobbied me to apply. They emailed me personally to say they were creating a podcasting category, and they thought Grammar Girl would be a good candidate.
So I applied, which is not cheap and is time-consuming.
And then ... they didn't give an award to anyone in that category. No one.
I'm on some list, though, where I still get notifications that the award period is open, and every time I get a notification, I get angry all over again.
@grammargirl
🥉 Award fraud : If there was an application fee for an award they never gave out, I would think you’d be legally entitled to your money back
