During the summer, I get to spend some time in my "local" #DarkSkyPreserve - #TerraNovaNP. 2023 did not disappoint.
When conditions permit, I like to use a wide field lens and take in the Milky Way and landscape. And occasionally I corral a meteor or two along the way.
If I get lucky, I sometimes snag some #AirGlow ripples or a #MeteorSmokeTrail (like the one here, captured Aug 12)!
Looking towards Mount Charles on an incredible Otago Peninsula night when the atmosphere was excited by green airglow. No wind made for wonderful reflections from the inlet's splendid surface. #airglow#Astronomy#NewZealand
Quite like this picture, on another night of wonderful airglow over New Zealand.. This was 23rd April 2015 when my favourite boatshed was still a thing! . #airglow#astronomy#NewZealand
What a night last night at the University of Canterbury's Mount John Observatory. The airglow was magnificent throughout the night. So bright you didn't need a flashlight to move around! #airglow#NewZealand
