The EPA rule does not extend to its use in pharmaceuticals and food, overseen by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
"Methylene chloride is commonly used to decaffeinate coffee. When applied directly to the beans, the solvent binds to the caffeine and removes it. Earlier this year, the Environmental Defense Fund petitioned the FDA to remove the chemical from the process of producing decaffeinated coffee."

My second attempt at an #affogato . This time with old-fashioned vanilla from Tillamook. 18g dose 44g out 35s, Timemore C3 Pro 7 clicks. I did use my go to roaster’s #decaf Peach Coffee Morning Glory. Also, transferred the shot from a cup into a cortado glass with one scoop of ice cream as pictured. Might ask my junior barista to take photos next time as they didn’t come out as well as I hoped. Made with Rodney Copper Bottom aka #CafelatRobot
I've switched to decaf for blood pressure and health reasons, but it always lacked the sour and bitter notes I like in coffee.
Today I brewed my decaf with a little bit of brewed cacao. I find brewed cacao on its own to be too bitter and too one-note, but mixed in with the decaf, it brings in just the right complexity and makes a genuinely good cup!
It's not pure coffee and it's slightly higher caffeine than decaf, but it's far less than coffee would be, and I really like it!
I am using Crio Bru for the cacao but there might be other brands as well.
I'm supposed to cut back on #tea because of caffeine contributing to #GERD. Which makes me extremely sad! I decided to give #Barry's decaf tea a try. And it's ... actually good? Most #decaf tea sucks, but I'm not sure I'd even know this is decaf. Anyway, good job, #Mastodaoine
As a person with an underlying heart condition that requires me to have low caffeine or #decaf items, it gets me rather hot under the collar when decaf is so often given secondary importance. There are either shortages or it’s completely absent from places or caffeine content isn’t placed on labels or they give you items with typical caffeine levels when you distinctly asked for decaf, causing you very many problems for days after unknowing consumption.
