The #ChurchOfTrump: How He’s Infusing #Christianity Into His Movement

Trump is demanding —& receiving— new levels of #devotion from #Republicans

Known for his improvised & volatile performances, #Trump is now ending many of his rallies w/ churchlike ritual & casting his prosecutions as persecution.

The meditative ritual might appear incongruent w/the raucous epicenter of the nation’s #conservative movement, but #Trump’s political creed stands as one of the starkest examples of his effort to transform the #GOP into a kind of #ChurchOfTrump. His insistence on absolute #devotion & #fealty can be seen at every level of the party, from #Congress to the #RNC to rank-&-file #voters.

Spiritual burn out is real.
It is part of the cycles of passion and devotion. It can be managed, it can be worked through, but it eventually does find us. A lot of people refer to these times of disconnection as Fallow times.
Fallow is when a piece of land is dug as if to prepare it for planting for the season but is then left. It is prepared but not sown, allowing it to rest and recover from previous planting and harvesting seasons.
I think that is an apt way to think of spirituality. We plant the seeds and they grow, we harvest all manner of good things from them. Joy, devotion, wisdom, insight, and more. We create wondrous things from the crop. Inspiration, motivation, beauty, etc. But what we forget is that in order to grow those crops must draw out nutrients from their soil, taking it away from other places to provide for all the good things we are wanting. Which means that once those resources are dried up we need to rest and recover them. Periods of rest are a natural part of the cycle. Take that time, rest, recover, and plant once more when you are ready.
