Off-color instant-speed card draw with a creature/artifact sac outlet in Standard/Modern metas where "useless" artifacts are plentiful and Rakdos mechanics are overrepresented? Yeah, this card's not staying at $0.20. This has "Deadly Dispute-esque price spike" written all over it...

At some point, it will spike to $1.50-$2.00. Long-term, it will settle in around $1.00. It's sure as heck not a bulk common, though.

Went to play Modern for the first time in a while last night. Definitely made my share of mistakes learning all the new cards and interactions, but had a great time playing my merfolk deck again!

Vs Esper Emeria Control: 0-2
Vs Rakdos Asmo Food: 1-2
Vs Izzet Faerie Wizard Control: 2-1

Was also fun going for food right after the event and making a few new friends. Socializing!

When the people who play Pioneer, Modern, and/or EDH finally realize this card exists, it's going to start selling for a lot more than $0.17.

And I wouldn't be at all shocked to see it start popping up in a lot of cubes.

It's interesting that seems to be the single-biggest driver of the MTG secondary market. Changes in meta and legality in Legacy/Standard almost never have any effect on card prices, but changes in Modern are very often met with HUGE swings.

It's making more sense why LOTR was direct-to-Modern, and also why it will likely become the best-selling set ever (usurping Modern Horizons II; a fact which caught me completely off-guard).

Today's unbannings were Mind's Desire in , and Preordain in .

I have a few copies of Mind's Desire in my store which were available at $0.99-$1.49. None sold in the hour after the unbanning was announced.

I had several dozen copies of Preordain at available at $0.99-$4.59. They nearly sold out within the hour (currently have 2 copies remaining).

Yes, Preordain is a good card, but it has been printed WAY MORE than Mind's Desire.

The hype and outcry surrounding the deck reminds me a lot of a similar surge of play for the Tibalt's Trickery deck after the release of Kaldheim, but there are some important differences:

  1. You could whiff on Tibalt's Trickery. In fact, you whiffed quite a lot.

  2. It was unpredictable, and often left you in a losing position if you didn't draw well.

  3. It wasn't infinite.

I think Flumph will get banned. I also think this is the right move.
