Zammer, to WorkReform

NPR publishing anti-union propaganda from Steven Rattner, a multimillionaire who owns homes in Manhattan, Martha's Vineyard, and a horse farm in upstate NY. The same guy who bailed out the auto industry wants you to think the is greedy for wanting a 32 hour work week and cites low wages in MEXICO as a reason that their wage demands are "unrealistic." Fuck this guy.

Do you think potential candidates should be reimbursed in some form for taking assessments that are required by the employer in order to be considered for employment?

Also, should this be available for only job candidates who are not considered for the position?

Or should it go for every job candidate, even the ones that get the position?

Thanks for reading and being your most precious and sensual self ❤️.

UPS workers approve 5-year contract, with 86% of votes cast in favor (apnews.com)

Under the tentative agreement, full- and part-time union workers will get $2.75 more per hour in 2023, and $7.50 more in total by the end of the five-year contract. Starting hourly pay for part-time employees also got bumped up to $21, but some workers said that fell short of their expectations....

I read a graphic adaptation of Bob Black’s “Abolition of Work” essay and while I do agree with the majority of his points, I can’t say that I agree with everything. Sure, the system of education is problematic at best…but to say we need to abolish work which makes us mindless and stupid, in favor of learning and expanding our minds, then to also say we need to abolish teachers and education, seems self-contradictory. The author concedes that there is work which has to be done by people in order to maintain a society, but after lambasting leftist movements that attempt to give workers fair compensation for their time and energies. I don’t think the author understands relationships, hobbies, etc. as work and responsibility- they just happen to be work and responsibility we enjoy. I think that there is merit (to put it lightly) in abolishing pointless, menial work and also the concept of a job, but people will always want to take care of others, will want to feed and clothe and nurse each other; we need builders and fixers and engineers and scientists and so much more. To discredit these things as mere “work” is to reject the human spirit. There is no lighthearted “play” without serious “work” to do- and while no one should be forced to work, everyone should be given the opportunity to channel their energy as they see fit, to put in the “work” to grow as a human being and a person in society. #review #books #socialism #antiwork #workreform #bookreview

“The issue will be central for… IATSE…too: if producers cut down on the number of real performers in a project, they’ll want to cut down on costume designers, hair & makeup artists, & other below-the-line workers also. Actors fear that without sufficient protections, they will effectively lose control of their faces, their voices, & their bodies.”

suchajazzyline,

“While Moody’s Investors Service warned that the cost of the new and SAG-AFTRA contracts, along with the recently ratified Directors’ Guild of America () contract, could cost the studios $450–600 million per year, that is roughly equivalent to what Zaslav alone made over the past five years.”

suchajazzyline,

“…SAG-AFTRA’s executive vice president Ben Whitehair told the crowd from the stage. 'Wall Street would love for us to think that factory workers, that delivery drivers, that hotel workers, that writers and actors have nothing in common. But you all know that is not the case.'”

It’s hotter inside the store than outside. Customers are complaining. In fact I’m sitting in the sun to cool down as I type this. And this note has been left from management
