Living near to a polling station gives me a good view of voting activity. All too often, especially with local elections such as today's, it's not greatly busier than normal.

Apathy is not a viable tactic in a democracy.

@Kendoyle As was intended, I'm certain.

Gave my atrophied woodworking skills an outing this afternoon, taking a reamer to the headstock of my old Ohana soprano and fitting a set of Gotoh planetary gear tuning pegs (which I've had lying around for yonks. As you do). Switched the clear fluorocarbon strings for a set of Fremont Blacklines, et voilà! it sounds fantastic.

For all the amazing ukuleles out there, a decently made, lightweight, mahogany soprano is hard to beat. This one's no Ken Timms… but then that's what I have the Ken Timms for 😁

@SJohnRoss I've had to get used to the fact that "I'm exceptionally thirsty and very much need a drink" is not what comes to mind for most people these days when told that someone is "pegging".

@RogerBW Not sure how cutting edge the Guardian is on science news.

"Where did you get this story?"
"From the scientist over there."
"Which…"
"Guy in the white coat. White coat equals scientist, yeah?"
"Not when the sleeves fasten around the back, no…"

"I'm what you like but don't expect me to join in, although I do like games though . You see I'm not different for the sake of being different, only for the desperate sake of being myself. I can't join your gang as you'd think I was a phony and I'd know it."

@NeadReport He'd been contacted by a reporter working on a piece about British eccentrics, who asked if he was still "doing it," as in being eccentric. They couldn't grasp that it was just him, not a show put on for the cameras.

Found out yesterday that the Duolingo course now offers learning music. Going to give it a try to see if it helps me to get my head around notation (again: it seemed fairly straightforward when I was 8).

Looked for some sheet music earlier and, completely coincidentally, came across two songs performed by Cliff Edwards in a musical called "Sunny"… two songs I did not have on my list.

The job of writing ukulele sheets for all of his stuff is not getting any smaller.

“It’s a pretty little thing, and looks like a bit of old 1970s carpet – brown and white and patterned.”

Now look, I would never suggest that a spider could not be considered pretty merely because it is what it is, but I think that any person of sound mind must draw the line at 1970s carpets.

"For some, Britpop was a high point for British guitar music: that time when Blur, Pulp, Suede and Oasis thrilled the world with wit and brio."

First paragraph and also the point when I bailed on this Guardian article. The idea that Oasis ever "…thrilled the world with wit…" is laughable; and they probably think that brio is a ballpoint pen.

Looking through some of the characters played by Cliff Edwards during his film career feels like reading the long list of dwarf suggestions for Snow White:

Soapy, Windy, Kearney, Froggy, Trilby, Owly, Finny, Baldy, Bumpy, Screwy, Louie, Rooney, Jerry, McCreedy, Snoopy, Handy, Shorty, Happy, Pinky, Sleepy, Dandy, Stormy, Runty, Foggy, Goldie, Mulvaney…

    … and, of course, Jiminy.
