@BigJackBrass How odd. I wonder if it's a response, somehow, to the Anazon thing.

SJohnRoss,
@SJohnRoss@dice.camp avatar

@BigJackBrass Maybe so. 😆 All of my guesses are in "legal maneuver" territory ... maybe even a license-parking move like Sony Spider-Man projects.

I'm seeing a lot of my fellow Gen-Xers saying "When did we start thinking the police were the bad guys?"

Did you not come up on Fuck the Police? On Killing in the Name?

Or is this only because now that you have your little bit of shit and feel entitled that you want to remake it? To be safe for you, instead of strong for them? To become the generation we hated for not protecting us?

These kids are doing what we did. Being who we wanted to be. Help them, don't shit on them. Fucking cowards.

@blackwingedheaven @thebrand Definitely in the Fuck the police GenX camp, too. 😯

Shedding some tears, tonight, for Arkane Austin. They've gone from mistreatment to mistreatment these last few years. 😓

I'll never be done replaying Prey.

SJohnRoss,
@SJohnRoss@dice.camp avatar

@ChukG Arkane Lyon did Dishonored, but Arkane Austin contributed to Dishonored 2.

Prey is very much in that design tradition. The main difference is, I would say, the emotional/moral temperature. Morgan has more of a redemption story, while Corvo is more about correcting/responding to wrongs done by others. To say more would spoil. 😁

SJohnRoss,
@SJohnRoss@dice.camp avatar

@ChukG I should also note that Prey takes place in its own universe (though it has some Dishonored Easter eggs), unlike, say, Deathloop, which does take place in Dishonored's future.

SJohnRoss,
@SJohnRoss@dice.camp avatar

@ChukG The references start to pile up ... from the very specific split-back chairs to Fia referring to Nancy and dreaming of the Void. 😆

The Russianesque nation that used the island is Tyvia, though nobody ever says that out loud ...

SJohnRoss,
@SJohnRoss@dice.camp avatar

@ChukG It's worth your time, if you enjoy the Dishonored series. Tone is different, but the design ideals are well in line. Good stuff.

SJohnRoss,
@SJohnRoss@dice.camp avatar

@ChukG Finish Deathloop first though. 😁

This is technically about video games, but I feel like I sometimes need to hear this about TTRPGs too: https://farawaytimes.blogspot.com/2023/02/how-to-make-good-small-games.html

SJohnRoss,
@SJohnRoss@dice.camp avatar

@jewelpit A lot of it applies to just about any creative endeavor outside games, too: small films, short fiction, etc. Little things can be excellent and enjoy freedoms that larger things seldom have.

Hey there!

My podcast is soon going to morph into a blend of the old Dociverse Podcast and the current Roadcast. More segments, 30-40 minute episodes, etc.

I once again put out the call for GUEST ANNOUNCERS.

I can't pay you, but I will find something to give you for your services. I'm leaning toward some custom engraved dice.

So, if you have done the Guest Announcer gig for me in the past, or would like to give it a try, let me know here.

And thanks in advance. Consider yourself hugged.

@DocCross I like announcing things.

Meowlcolm Reynolds, my old man, my stalker, my grouchy boy, died suddenly today. He was 15 years old and loved no one so much as me for the past 7 years, the time we had him. My heart hurts so much. I can't believe he's gone. I'll miss his steady presence.

It's interesting the things that wake you up at night. At about 3:00 AM this morning I awoke with a burning desire to know how large of a text could fit on the floppies I used in my first computer with a disk drive. About 35,000 words.

SJohnRoss,
@SJohnRoss@dice.camp avatar

@orionkidder @Teyrnon Everything worthwhile took multiple floppies. 😁

I started on (slightly) higher capacity ones, I suspect, since my GURPS books were typically on just two floppies each, and they ran from 80,000 to 130,000 words in draft form.

I've been pondering commonalities among the HTT gamers I know ... And there's only one I can pinpoint that's (maybe) relevant to a discussion of what HTT is: they're all both Players and Game Masters, in turn. None of them are exclusively GMs, and none of them are exclusively Players.

Which is not to say some aren't "Forever GMs," but they love to play when they can. 😅

I don't know if this is an essential thing. But, I do know some Only GMs, and some Only Players, and they lean LTT.

SJohnRoss,
@SJohnRoss@dice.camp avatar

My instinct is that this isn't really an HTT trait, but rather a common, non-exclusive origin story for how HTT leanings might emerge or become prominent in someone's play and ref styles. But it's hard to know for sure. I've gamed with lots of different gamers but ... Plural of anecdote, and so on.

SJohnRoss,
@SJohnRoss@dice.camp avatar

This came about from conversations about other kinds of commonalities, for example, genre preferences, or modal preferences, or even common favorite gameworlds.

Which would be cool, but alas, if such commonalities exist among my HTT kin, it has been my misfortune to miss out on them. 😂

Congratulations America, this may be the worst curry description I have ever seen. I was not brave enough to try it

SJohnRoss, (edited )
@SJohnRoss@dice.camp avatar

@tinheadned Chicken Marsala is an Italian-American food with French-Sicilian roots.

Are you maybe confusing "Marsala" with "Masala?" The former is a wine named for the town of Marsala, in Sicily. The latter is a term in Indian cooking for a blend of spices. So, a Chicken Tikka Masala (for example) might be something you'd enjoy from an Indian restaurant, while Chicken Marsala is an unrelated dish you'd (ideally) get at an Italian-American place in the U.S.

SJohnRoss,
@SJohnRoss@dice.camp avatar

@tinheadned Oh! That would definitely put me on my guard if navigating menus in the UK. 😅 Should I be so fortunate, I will proceed with caution.
