Nerdy advocate for static websites and the tools that build them. Inveterate supporter of the Oxford comma. Old enough to remember when Americans were proud to be anti-fascist. Admitted Apple fanboy — don’t judge — but also very pro-Linux and have been known to use Arch BTW™. Husband, father, grandfather, son, brother. Native Texan but opinions are atypical for an Old White Guy from Texas. Cancer survivor (so far). He/him.

Balaji Srinivasan is the spearhead of the new fascist movement establishing itself in Silicon Valley.

It's easy to dismiss him as a clown given how bad, inconsistent and dumb his ideas are but he's a clown with a lot of followers in tech who listen to his visions of "ethnic cleansing".

@tante Given the apparent ties between Srinivasan’s ideas and those of the Y Combinator CEO, wonder if it’s about time one stopped worrying about what’s on the Hacker News front page?

Is there a way to get around the fact that Firefox’s Developer Tools don’t offer “pretty-printing” (word-wrap) of minimized text in the Response tab in the Network view? The feature is common in Chromium-based browsers, and this difference could prevent a web developer from otherwise making Firefox a daily driver for serious work. So can anyone suggest a workaround for this issue, whether it’s a plugin or a flags setting or something else altogether?

BryceWrayTX,
@BryceWrayTX@fosstodon.org avatar

@RL_Dane Yeah, word-wrap works great in source code view, but has no effect on that tab. Thanks, though!

Whenever I try logging in to PyCon US website, 1password keeps trying to pop up my accounts for prior year's PyCon US, like 2019, 2020, 2022, etc

Surely the problem is me? I don't know how to use 1password efficiently, right? 😓

BryceWrayTX,
@BryceWrayTX@fosstodon.org avatar

@mariatta Can you move the previous years’ accounts into “Archive”? That might do it.

BryceWrayTX,
@BryceWrayTX@fosstodon.org avatar

@mariatta It’s a way to hang onto old stuff you don’t want to delete without its (usually) showing up in the dropdown. Hope it works for you.

@aardrian On phone-size screens, I already have different styling (no web fonts, which I failed to mention in the original version of the post) so I perhaps could just extend that to include underlines on smaller screens — although I do wonder how sites such as Wikipedia get away with non-underlined links on phones. :thinking:

@chrishannah Although I don’t actively use it any more, my former Eleventy site repo might help you with pagination (https://github.com/brycewray/eleventy-site/blob/main/src/posts/posts.njk) and RSS (https://github.com/brycewray/eleventy-site/blob/main/src/feed-safe.njk). On the latter, you might want to see how I config’d it (https://github.com/brycewray/eleventy-site/blob/main/eleventy.config.js#L283) using the official Eleventy RSS plugin.

After nearly 6 weeks, I've decided to end my extended trial of Kagi search, it gives little value over DuckDuckGo and is a waste of money.

BryceWrayTX,
@BryceWrayTX@fosstodon.org avatar

@kev Thanks for the info. I’ve been using the $10 level for a few weeks (blew through 300 searches/month without much trouble) and was happy with Kagi at first; but, in the last couple of weeks, I’ve noticed increasingly unsatisfactory results from my most technical/geeky searches for answers to coding questions. (Had better luck with Brave Search directly, which is already one of the engines Kagi consults.) Will probably not renew, as well.

It’s amusing reading on various sites how users of desktop browsers based on Chromium 121.x, which went Stable this past week, have become so upset because — gasp! — the top of each tab is now separated from the bottom of the tab by a thin line (similar to what Firefox did a few versions back)

Even if I were a tabs-hoarder, as many of them seem to be, I don’t think I could work up this much artificial outrage over such a topic.
