I think it's important for newer Pagans to know that you are absolutely not supposed to feel guilty for not practicing your religion enough. This is a modern Christian and Capitalist concept; that you somehow have to earn the right to exist as you are.

I've been really busy the past two weeks with home construction, and I haven't done any devotions in like 10 days.

No big deal, my Gods are for always. In fact, time is probably a whole different concept to Them. My faith didn't diminish because I didn't light any candles. My love didn't fade just because I was busy. The entropy of life means that sometimes practices wax and wane, and you can either fight against it, or wait a few weeks and pick it up again when you're ready.

This wild geranium in my yard has been happily blooming all summer.

In Scandinavia, the name for this flower translates as "Odin's favor" or "Odin's grace." The story goes that it was used to dye the cloaks of Viking warriors, because yields a grayish blue color that is the same as Odin's eyes.

I found it interesting that you only get that color by adding iron to the dye bath.

@Cat_LeFey@pagan.plus avatar

@villiljos This is specifically a geranium sylvaticum, the locals here call it "crane's bill."

@villiljos I actually have no idea, I just like to memorize tons of random plant facts to help me with identification. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I think the source for this tidbit is from Plantlore, Legends, and Lyrics by Folkard.

Mantra chanting takes the voice right out.
Any tips for that?

Cat_LeFey,
@Cat_LeFey@pagan.plus avatar

@terminusnoctis Just water and time, that's really the only thing for it. Having been a teacher, I know how it feels to project your voice all day. After a week or so, your vocal chords will get used to it.
If you were looking for a more mystical answer, a blue stone near the throat chakra might help even out the vibrations so they're not as harsh.

This poll is turning into an excellent thread of home protection ideas, from the very simple to the very complex.
I recommend taking a scroll through these great comments!

Hail Freya!
This week's #FridayPaganPoll:

Do you do anything spiritual for home protection?

Spells, prayers, objects, superstitions, rituals… anything, I want to hear about it!

Cat_LeFey,
@Cat_LeFey@pagan.plus avatar

@SavahRellcast Wow, that's a whole lot of protection! I also have tons, and it's probably overkill but I think that the more active magick you do around the house, the more protections you need.

Cat_LeFey,
@Cat_LeFey@pagan.plus avatar

@witchpunkboi 5th one's the charm! I had a lot more when my kids were younger too, something about infants just attracts all kinds of weirdness, glad you found a solution.

Cat_LeFey,
@Cat_LeFey@pagan.plus avatar

@bendingsofjupiter That is a very simple but effective idea! A good example that home protection doesn't have to be elaborate.

I know what it's like living somewhere you can't just let all your witchyness hang out, it sucks, but discretion and secrets are a part of witchcraft as well. Blessed be.

Cat_LeFey,
@Cat_LeFey@pagan.plus avatar

@MsHearthWitch Classic! A physical cleaning is always the first step. This is almost exactly what I do, and it works great. I use stones at the four cardinal points to anchor it.

Cat_LeFey,
@Cat_LeFey@pagan.plus avatar

@cour13r5 Sounds cool, I'm getting a lot of really good responses to this poll, I'm tempted to try some of them!

Cat_LeFey,
@Cat_LeFey@pagan.plus avatar

@B_Whitewind Heck yeah, after 10 years mine are seeped in as well. I paint Pentacles on the windows with saltwater. I guess leaving saltwater on the windows in the sun will etch it in the glass a little? Well, they're permanent now 🤷‍♂️

Cat_LeFey,
@Cat_LeFey@pagan.plus avatar

@murmurations Railroad spikes seem to be a common one, I'll have to look into that. Love Florida water, I put that shit on everything!

Cat_LeFey,
@Cat_LeFey@pagan.plus avatar

@Crazypedia What a wonderful story of hereditary witchcraft! My kids would have loved that, letting them bang pots and pans. Actually, they might still like it as adults, lol, especially the salt gun, very American 😂

Cat_LeFey,
@Cat_LeFey@pagan.plus avatar

@ravensong92 Yes, trees really are excellent protectors. I have a birch and an oak in particular that were very willing to be part of my wards. Your setup sounds similar to mine, must be a druid thing! :blobwizard:

Cat_LeFey,
@Cat_LeFey@pagan.plus avatar

@cour13r5 This is some really interesting stuff, some I've never heard before, thanks for sharing!

Cat_LeFey,
@Cat_LeFey@pagan.plus avatar

@RavynWitch I'm seeing that most people are doing layered protections, which is good because I always thought my multiple protocols were overkill but it turns out I'm a completely average witch, lol :blobwitch:

I like this amethyst matrix idea! Are they like under the bed or tucked in the sides?

Cat_LeFey,
@Cat_LeFey@pagan.plus avatar

@lonelyowl That's awesome! Labrynths like that are used to redirect energy, sometimes to confuse or trap baneful entities.

I aspire to be the person who gifts their children wierd unknown occult objects :blobwitchtea:

Cat_LeFey,
@Cat_LeFey@pagan.plus avatar

@SavahRellcast I have a big ward set around the entire property that I renew yearly. It's set with big hunks of quartz at each of the cardinal directions, and specific trees at the cross quarters. Inside, I lay salt regularly in the doorways, and paint Pentacles on the windows and mirrors with salted moonwater.
Then there are the little charms in the actual house. Each time we work on some repairs I'm adding a little in the walls or floors: spell jars, bags, sigils, etc.

Cat_LeFey,
@Cat_LeFey@pagan.plus avatar

@mnda Aww, that's so cute 😻

Cat_LeFey,
@Cat_LeFey@pagan.plus avatar

@lonelyowl All of this is so cool, love the witchbottle against cops, tell your mom she sounds like someone I'd have a drink with, lol

Cat_LeFey,
@Cat_LeFey@pagan.plus avatar

@Cheesealicious This is a good example of using the kind of magick you're attuned to. I've literally never been to the ocean, so it wouldn't work for me, but I think each person has a type of energy they are good at working with.

Cat_LeFey,
@Cat_LeFey@pagan.plus avatar

@Malleus Yup, mine was built in 1899, it was all the rage back then, I guess!
The house is slowly falling apart even though we've been doing repairs every summer for the past 10 years, but I still love the grumpy old man character of the place, it suits me, lol

Cat_LeFey,
@Cat_LeFey@pagan.plus avatar

@The_Augusto Yeah this makes sense. I have a swamp that hates me, so I don't go in there. Some things just hate humans but are fine otherwise 🤷‍♂️
