[30 years later] They called this guy “Piston Honda"? Really?

@waldoj hmmmm…

@ross @waldoj Yep, his original name from the arcade game.

I'm stuck on an question, if anybody has any concrete advice.

I have a background video. According to WCAG 2.2…

  • SC 2.2.2 indicates that there should be a means to pause moving, blinking, scrolling, or auto-updating information

  • SC 1.2.1 indicates that there should be an alternative or audio for video

Assuming the only "information" in the video is just vibe setting, is anything really required here beyond a text description? Am I missing anything?

Chris,
@Chris@mastodon.social avatar

@aardrian @cwilcox808 Thank you so much. I forgot to mention “and a pause button”, but the scenario you bring up was exactly what I was considering as the complicating factor.

Is aria-describedby pointing to an alternative in some adjacent div the right approach, or is there a better way of referencing the description?

TIL you can use your filters in computed data if you use regular functions rather than arrow functions https://illtron.net/2023/01/11ty-directory-data-filters/
Very handy for the clean up I've been doing on my site. https://rknight.me/notes/202405200945/

@robb My first thought was, “hmm this sounds complicated,“ followed immediately by “oh wait I wrote this.” Glad it was helpful!

What’s your favorite bell pepper? And, no, they don’t all taste the same.

Chris,
@Chris@mastodon.social avatar

@markwyner When my wife was growing up, the local grocery store only ever had green, and to this day, she refuses to eat them. I can taste the difference with green, but not so much with the others. For some reason I prefer orange though.

I am just unbelievably hyped to see them at the Black Cat, and the show is still over a month away.

deeply fucked up that Apple doesn't still sell these puppies

these things are so damn reliable

Chris,
@Chris@mastodon.social avatar

@tvaziri I dropped whatever device I last had that used them, and it landed exactly right to slightly bend the jack so that it would only provide audio out of one side at a time. I've been bummed ever since because they really were great.

There’s a guy in my neighborhood who always walks around in an ermine trimmed king robe with a Batman logo on the back. Every neighborhood should have a guy like this

Chris,
@Chris@mastodon.social avatar

@hannah Are you saying he's not the actual bat-king of your neighborhood?

Any thoughts on infinite scroll vs button to load more vs next page buttons? In the context of a feed

Chris,
@Chris@mastodon.social avatar

@joelanman Overall I'm mixed on infinite scrolling.

If I'm looking for something specific on the page, such as within search results, they can be a problem because I'm often trying to Command+F to find something that should be there, but just isn't yet.

For something like a feed, however, where it's just a whole lot of everything, then it's a bit better.

iPhone 15 Pro’s been my best battery performer by a mile, damn. All MagSafe charging too pretty much

Chris,
@Chris@mastodon.social avatar

@christianselig You’re doing better than I am, with more cycles. I have Optimized Charging turned on, and I also use MagSafe, except when traveling.I wonder what I could be doing differently.

    Andy and I have been hand washing dishes for weeks because we don’t want to call someone to get the dishwasher fixed. Couldn’t be more millenial if we tried.

    Chris,
    @Chris@mastodon.social avatar

    @rachsmith My dishwasher broke, trapping dishes inside, on Thanksgiving Day. After a valiant effort, I determined that opening it was impossible, so I had to break it to get the dishes out. It's been nine years. Washing dishes is now my mental health time.
