Any job where you deal with construction or dirt or sawdust will absolutely clog those ports if left in pants facing upward.

I don’t think UBI helps with this much. This might be controversial to hear, but UBI solves different problems related to fulfilling needs and doesn’t solve problems with incentives inherently. So if studying history is on par with doing no work at all, then a history major will only be able to afford the new ground floor of our society.

What would probably be better is to fix our grant systems and provide destinations for studying history. So UBI allows anyone to study it but grants still encourage people to do so and gives them a destination to work towards.

CleoTheWizard,
@CleoTheWizard@lemmy.world avatar

Depends how you think of it. What UBI is saying is that no one can make less than X money per year. The concepts differ on implementation though. For instance, the UBI could be paid out through reverse tax brackets where how much income you’re paid is diminished as you go up in income.

A different concept is that the UBI is slowly increased for everyone every year. Then a tax is levied on companies to pay into this system and they would (probably) lower primary salaries in accordance as the UBI increased to cover it.

The UBI would need other measures though. For instance if you’re thinking “isn’t this just welfare with extra steps?” It would be unless we seek to balance wealth inequality with the UBI. Raising the UBI too far would mean that incentives to seek specialized labor would be too low and those jobs stop being filled.

UBI does however simplify a lot. We wouldn’t need to assess homeless or low income people for welfare really. Same with unemployment. The messy paperwork goes away once you know that you have guaranteed income.

“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holey and acceptable to God, place his word into thy rectum, which is your spiritual worship.”

It’s worse than that. People don’t understand what drowning is like at all, it is a terribly unpeaceful way to go. We all tend to think that you run out of air and then suddenly go unconscious but prior to that:

Water will enter your lungs which, fun fact, really don’t like that and so it is apparently extremely painful. It also triggers an involuntary reaction. You are now conscious on adrenaline, with very painful water in your lungs, and have lost all control of your body. Your body will attempt to flail wildly out of control while you suffer until you lose consciousness from lack of air. All of this happens quickly but probably not as quickly as you want it to given the circumstances.

This is a PSA but there are a handful of theaters that do 4D called 4DX theaters and you might have one near you if you live in the US. Regal theaters specifically usually have them.

Went and saw Dune Pt2 in theaters and it was actually super fun. Shaking during the fight scenes, wind on your face when out on the dunes, lots of movement riding the sand worm, and water blasts and more.

They’re super fun, look them up and maybe travel to one sometime.

@CleoTheWizard@lemmy.world avatar

It’s not for everyone but mildly shaken is not how I would describe it for me. They would be hard pressed to shake you or move you any faster without a seatbelt. The movie also doesn’t shake you for the entire time, but I’d say it’s on for a good 1/3rd of the movie. I was at my limit with it by the end for sure but that was fine. But maybe it varies from theater to theater.

You’re correct though, they usually are more expensive. I went on a discounted day, my ticket was $14, but they are usually $20 which is double normal rate.

So my advice is: If your movie is available in IMAX, go see it in the room adjacent. Or on a regular screen. Have your soda, popcorn, hotdog, whatever. Be comfortable. Then on another day, preferably discount night, come back to 4DX and don’t get a lot of food and drink. It will make you spill it.

4DX isn’t meant to be comfy and relaxing. It’s an intense experience and isn’t for everyone. It was my second time with the movie though and if you’re going in expecting to be on a rollercoaster the entire time, it’s super fun if you already know the movie. Also, pick your movie carefully. They only do a dozen 4DX movies a year. Horror would be amazing with it but the more action packed, the more shaking. So choose wisely. And if you have kids, this is a must at least one time. They’ll have so much fun.

This kind of behavior should be enough for outlets to blacklist developers. But since they don’t/wont/can’t band together to do that, they have no say in how games are reviewed.

Not mentioning micro transactions is equivalent to not mentioning the price. Why review a game if you don’t know if it will be $50 or $100 at launch?

Capcom basically asked them to review a game that doesn’t even exist, they asked them to review a dev build.

CleoTheWizard,
@CleoTheWizard@lemmy.world avatar

This is only partially true. Reviewers know that the exact build and exact code aren’t final when reviewing, that is true and normal. The reviewer does however expect that gameplay systems, graphics, audio, and the rest are mostly complete with only minor tweaks needed. The game should be 99% done by the time reviewers have it.

Yet nowadays the game is not 99% done. This even applies to huge day 1 patches. Like great you patched stuff but also reviewers can’t assess performance and bugs properly for consumers that way. Same is true of monetization which is a huge factor for enjoyment in modern games.

CleoTheWizard,
@CleoTheWizard@lemmy.world avatar

In my dreams of bettering consumerism, I often think a lot about refills. We waste so so so so so much money on packaging and it’s all waste. You could get one plastic cereal box and refill it 100x at Walmart with a dispenser. What blows my mind is that you can do all of this with exchange programs. We already do this with the big plastic water jugs. We used to do it with glass milk bottles. It’s insanity to keep buying shampoo that comes in the same bottle but get extra trash with it every time.

CleoTheWizard,
@CleoTheWizard@lemmy.world avatar

Not to justify any of it, but this is very much the thoughts of past generations. We complain about these ideals but this has always been the prevailing thought until very recently.

I’m not saying there’s zero examples of communities bridging, it was a long way to get where we are. But I’d say it’s only in the last 10, maybe even 5 years that I’ve seen communities begin to finally work together on collective equalities.

To everyone that does not understand this fully, myself included, the main point I’ve been told is that each groups struggle was entirely separate. When you’re a minority, you’re not about to take up the baggage and arguments used against other groups. And then you turn on other minority groups to divert attention or because again, their struggle isn’t your problem.

None of this is right or helpful. I say this only because many of our groups are gaining in privileges compared to others. This IS THE TIME to elevate everyone instead of running away with it and diminishing others.

The DEA is currently investigating rescheduling marijuana which was prompted by Biden’s HHS doing the preliminary lab work to present to them.

Then Biden has pardoned everyone who was charged federally for possession of marijuana.

And then he urged states to consider doing the same. Just this week, Massachusetts followed through with that.

Obviously he’s doing this to get more voters, but there’s real progress happening and it’s not a reaction to anything recent. This was all indicated during his campaigning.

CleoTheWizard,
@CleoTheWizard@lemmy.world avatar

Well aside from trapped water existing or not, this certainly didn’t happen. The geological layering of soil would tell us, the extinction events would tell us, and the fossils would tell us.

Not to mention there’s also a massive problem with heat and moving that much water so quickly.

A surge of illegal homemade machine guns has helped fuel gun violence in the US (apnews.com)

Communities around the U.S. have seen shootings carried out with weapons converted to fully automatic in recent years, fueled by a staggering increase in small pieces of metal or plastic made with a 3D printer or ordered online. Laws against machine guns date back to the bloody violence of Prohibition-era gangsters. But the...

CleoTheWizard,
@CleoTheWizard@lemmy.world avatar

Frankly even if the bans did work, people wouldn’t want them. The US does not care about gun violence because the people in power are pandering most to people unaffected by it since they’re who vote in the primaries. The US cannot and will not address its gun violence in the near future and it will not address the fundamental needs of its people if conservative leaders continue to get elected.

Basically, the US is probably screwed and is due for increased violence one way or another. Especially since we’re all allowed to own a deadly weapon and yet a good portion of us aren’t even literate.

You’d be amazed at how many Lemmy communities on here aren’t visibly active but still have an active community. If you’re new to a thing, go and ask a question on a community with little interaction. Sometimes people are listening but not talking and your post will get good engagement. It’s weird that way.

Counterpoint, “originality” almost never really refers to something that has never been done before. Instead it refers to something that the intended consumer has no, or little, reference for. Prime example is stardew valley and Helldivers.

Harvest moon has existed for awhile but few potential consumers have reference for it when playing stardew. So it succeeds. Helldivers is an alt version of many games but earth defense force is one of the genres it’s in. They’re very similar games at the core. Yet most people have no reference for it so it can still be “original” to them.

While I agree these games have heart and care, the success is largely to do with having a genre that already works with some audiences and then polishing it up and adding that heart factor to reskin it and try a new audience.

This is what indie games are great for. Take core ideas from big studios that work. Then don’t skip the part where the heart is ripped out for profit. And bam it’s a good game.

I’m pretty sure what happened is that they were essentially pitching a shell for the back of the truck. And if it’s rigid and made of metal and maybe folded down to act as a cover while driving, fine. That’d still be a lot more than what the average truck/SUV convertible will cost. But it’s Tesla so it’s expected.

But then they changed to this BS and couldn’t reduce the price without recognizing the drop in expectation so here we are.

CleoTheWizard,
@CleoTheWizard@lemmy.world avatar

Nope, this was the single moment that ruined the show for me and I’ll tell you why.

Carls reaction wasn’t even shock. It was just nothing. Detached is a great word for just… nothing. So you have the son watching his mom die and zero reaction happens.

Then the dad freaks out but just like the meme I found this reaction so stupid. It’s bad acting. It’s bad writing.

Then what really killed it for me is that the dad goes into a long sad boi moment, meanwhile Carl becomes this new bad boy character that his character earned exactly zero build up for. So much so that he takes away from his dad. His character goes from weak boy who needs protection to this like rough and tough kid who tells his dad to “man up.” It’s hilarious. It needed way more development and it was clear they wanted a destination for the characters but couldn’t transition properly.

CleoTheWizard,
@CleoTheWizard@lemmy.world avatar

(Didn’t mean it argumentatively, I meant that aimed at the show)

Dude really read a history book about Hitler fighting a one front war and somehow turning it into a three front war and said “Hold my beer”

Warner Brothers can’t even run a good business when it comes to movies in the DC universe, so I’m not surprised that can’t run a gaming business either.

WB is incompetent. Look no further than Arkham Knight which had horrible publishing and whose PC port was farmed out to the lowest bidder. Arkham Knight succeeded despite its publisher and not because of it. Same thing with Hogwarts.

So yeah if they’ve even forced a studio to make a sequel, buckle up. They’re going full EA at this point and they don’t care if they run it into the ground. Just need a bigger graveyard to put this game next to Henry Cavils Superman.

@CleoTheWizard@lemmy.world avatar

With how good the intelligence community is at its job, I’d be surprised if all of the working ones went up. I’d bet a lot of them are compromised.

CleoTheWizard,
@CleoTheWizard@lemmy.world avatar

Why are they not separated out in any way? There should be separate bins for “active posters” “active commenters” and “active voters”. Otherwise you’re going to get some wacky data problems like this.

CleoTheWizard,
@CleoTheWizard@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah it doesn’t take a genius to hate Nintendo for simple things like artificially limiting amibos stock to make more money
