If you’re looking for app recommendations, you probably generally land in the usual « LibreOffice / GIMP » space.

But what about replacing other proprietary apps, like Obsidian, Notion, VS Code, Teams or Slack?

Regarding VSCodium: which marketplace is being used is based on a link in config, so if you REALLY need some extension that's not available in the default marketplace you can change it to the Microsoft's one.

It is against the Microsoft's TOS, but, realistically, who cares? 🙃

Even though I absolutely love , sometimes I get tired of encountering the same issues over and over again, and of the "it's 99% there" situation.

Let me know if you agree with these issues or not, and if you have others that personally bother you.

@thelinuxEXP Well, I've encountered devices that refused to work under Windows 10 and worked out of the box on Linux, so I don't quite agree with that "they will always have drivers for Windows" thing 😉

@thelinuxEXP No, that's the point: there are no drivers. My friend had some weird, no-name webcam and the only driver we could find on some old forum was for Windows 7, and it just did not work on Win10. Linux, however, was just like "yep, that's a webcam, here you have the video feed".

And yeah, I also had some bad experiences with installing Windows. "Hmm, no drivers. Ok, I'll download them from the internet. Oh, no Ethernet... Well, I guess I'll have to install them from a pendrive. Wait, what do you mean USB doesn't work?!?"

okej, pora sprawdzić jak Fedi się do takich rzeczy nadaje. podawanie dalej jak najbardziej mile widziane:

ma ktoś do polecenia polskie sklepy z lokalnie robioną odzieżą męską? mile widziane T-shirty, longsleeve'y, joggery i różne takie, ZWŁASZCZA w kolory i wzory. i skarpetki też (chciałbym ograniczyć swoją zależność od Many Mornings).
póki co znane mi są Pan Tu Nie Stał, Barhan, Mój Kraj Taki Piękny i Kabak, ale większość z nich ma taki se wybór męskich.

Ja bym sugerował pójście na całość i szycie własnych ubrań 🙂. A jak nie, to według mnie najbardziej etyczną opcją jest kupowanie używanych.

They offer a bunch of services that are all open source, free to use, collect no data whatsoever, and that can help you replace some of big tech’s services. And a lot of them don’t even require an account!

Online, collaborative notes and spreadsheets without the need for creating accounts are super nice for team assignments at a university. Definitely will be using those.

As a content creator, I’m all for getting more money, but forcing users to watch ads isn’t the way to do it… I think YouTube would lose a lot of viewers if they enforced this on everyone, and creators would suffer as a result.

If you use AndroidTV then I recommend SmartTube. It's a FOSS YouTube client. I started using it about a year or two years ago and never went back.

Regarding AdBlock; I block all of the ads on every device I own and I don't feel bad at all about this. Probably in part because of my very anticonsumeristic views. Also, considering the minuscule amount of money that creators make per user from AdSense, I think that watching ads just isn't worth my time. If I actually watch someone fairly frequently, I prefer to just send them these few dollars directly.

Instalujesz sobie jednego dnia Linuxa na komputerze, myślisz sobie że to niegroźne i nic się nie stanie, a tu nagle, nim się obejrzysz, masz telefon z FOSS ROMem, oglądasz twitcha w mpv, selfhostujesz własny serwer Matrixa z bridgem do Messengera i piszesz dokumenty w LaTeXu, w Emacs

Wczoraj podzieliłem się utworem granym na maszynie do pisania. Coby kontynuować motyw nietypowej muzyki, przedstawiam: The American Fotoplayer.
Instrument został zaprojektowany do wykorzystania w kinach, podczas puszczania niemych filmów. Wydaje wiele różnych dźwięków. W gruncie rzeczy jest to cała orkiestra, operowana przez jedną osobę.
