I’ve heard some pretty gruesome tales of bear attacks. I think these women are underestimating how bad being mauled by a bear could be.

Shit, I wanted to reproduce his experiment but I don’t have one of those.

Most of his critiques are of US infrastructure, so it would have been nice to have the conversions in the video:

30 km/h = 18.6 mph

50 km/h = 31.1 mph

60 km/h = 37.3 mph

88.5 km/h = 55 mph

30km/h is about 18 mph. That’s gonna be a hard sell in America.

Fish are shrinking around the world. Here’s why scientists are worried. | Figuring out the reason why has big implications, with billions of people depending on seafood for protein. (wapo.st)

The pair restarted their work in Massachusetts with about 400 brook trout reared for up to eight months in tanks. The scientists kept some of the fish in waters set at 59 degrees Fahrenheit while others at 68 degrees Fahrenheit. All were fed the same diet....

What’s your plan to convince billions of people to stop eating fish?

Why does it need to be updated? Just play the originals if they’re still popular and then make something new instead.

I strongly disagree. Children have no frame of reference, they’ll watch whatever is on. When I was young I watched a lot of Hanna-Barbera cartoons and they were made decades before I was born.

The first name that came to mind was Thomas Sowell

I started duolingo a few weeks ago and I’m loving it. I turned off almost all notifications though.

Anyone have an idea how long that is?

all for the corporate machine to be fed warm bodies

It’s the government charging this, not corporations.

Gigan,
@Gigan@lemmy.world avatar

Are you talking about the soldier or the redditor?

Gigan,

Chapelle’s special’s have been very controversial. I think people protested about one of them, kind of proving Seinfeld’s point.

Jew supports Israel. In other news, water is wet and the sky is blue.

Gigan,
@Gigan@lemmy.world avatar

Is there a big disparity? I can’t think of any Jews that have shown support for Gaza or Palestine. I’m sure they exist, but not from what I’ve seen.

Gigan,
@Gigan@lemmy.world avatar

If that’s true why haven’t we invaded Saudi Arabia? Or put sanctions on them or something.

Gigan,
@Gigan@lemmy.world avatar

Then why would they sponsor a terrorist attack against the US?

In a lopsided enough match a team could catch it and still lose.

That literally happens in the books

Can we all agree that whatever version of predictive text we have nowadays is crap, and has been for a long time?

I’m sick of random capitalisations mid sentence. I’m sick of common words being replaced by less common ones or even downright nonsense. I’m sick of it taking three attempts to successfully get the word I want. I swear it’s been like this for five years or more. Can we have a better version yet, or at least the old one...

Gigan,
@Gigan@lemmy.world avatar

Or when it “corrects” a word I didn’t want, so I delete the part it changed and then type in what I want to say and it “corrects” it again into the same thing I just deleted. Satan could learn a thing or two from whoever invented that “feature.”

I think capitalism is good, but not perfect. Communism is bad.

Gigan,
@Gigan@lemmy.world avatar

I think human nature is inherently greedy and selfish, and capitalism is best equipped to use this in a way that benefits society. Workers are motivated to work harder and learn new skills to find the most rewarding job they can. Businesses are motivated to create products and run as efficiently as possible. Consumers are motivated to get as much value as the can out of their money. Everyone in the equation is acting selfishly and in their own self-interest (which I believe humans are inclined to do anyway) but when applied on a societal level, everyone benefits. However I will concede that this is a balancing act that requires some level of government regulation to maintain.

On the other hand, I think communism only works when everyone acts altruistically. Which is noble, but unrealistic.

I agree. Businesses and owners have too much influence. I want more unions, trust-busting, and consumer protections. Workers seem to be organizing more at least, which is a good start.
