I’m not sure the entire theory behind humans dominating based on their ability to run long distances to wear out their prey was the best strategy. The best hunters take down their prey before they are even capable of running away (like an arrow or spear to the lungs).
I hate feeling like an expendable human resource. When I was laid off it was completely without advanced notice, they’re never considerate enough to notify you two weeks in advance (like we are supposed to do).
It’s not like the executive types are known for their empathy. I’ve seen the Chairman of the Board throw full on temper tantrums (and throwing stuff) at his subordinates. They have zero qualms laying us off if it means it increases this quarter’s bottom line.
The interesting thing is that Russia already has two ice free ports on the Western side of the country: Kaliningrad in the Baltics and Novorossisk in the Black Sea, just East of the Crimean peninsula. There’s no real need for another port in Sevastopol. And on the Pacific they’ve got Vladivostok and much of the Kamchatka peninsula.
It was announced late last year that Gentoo is now offering binary versions of their packages. I’ve always had an interest in Gentoo, but the need to compile everything has always turned me away from it. I run Arch because it gives me the sense that I have more control of my system, when compared to other distros like Ubuntu,...
Are the benefits of compiling from source noticeable for modern hardware or slightly last gen hardware? Like, a last generation Ryzen 5900x with NVidia 3070 GPU (my current setup).
I know compile flags definitely have an effect, I just don’t know how dramatic a difference there would be.
