If you don't use Bing with Edge, Microsoft will tell you your computer needs repairing.

They are not wrong.

To mend your machine:

  1. Ditch Windows
  2. Install Plasma
  3. Your computer is ready.

How do you like to approach writing about games?

I've noticed there are some folks writing at length here on their experiences playing games, so this felt like a good place to ask. Do you take notes as you play, and/or after each session, then write out full thoughts upon completing a game?

Or are your reflections compiled only after finishing a game, no notes?

I've dabbled with different approaches, and haven't really settled on a consistent process personally.

I personally like to write some general things I end up enjoying about a game, while I’m playing (or during pauses), mostly because I plan on making a YT channel, but also because I like to leave useful reviews on GOG and Steam. The thing about making notes during early on is that you can check them later and see if anything overstayed its welcome. It’s also great to remember story details, if they’re relevant

The good thing about simply writing down, even generic notes like “good music” and “controls really well” can help create that memory path to the actual experience. You don’t need to be a “critic” to understand when something is great, good, bad or “just there”, but it can take some skill to write in a way that makes sense to other people, so writing about the games you’ve been playing is a good way to train that!

What is something you can’t live without, technology wise that saves you time?

I have to say it’s my virtual assistant I’ve made. It saves me a lot of time with making reminders and such alarms for meetings or interviews, music etc.

I mean, “tech wise” is incredibly generic. Electricity itself is pretty much essential and something I’d have a hard time living without.

As for more recent tech, the internet. I can “live without”, but a lot of stuff I do for entertainment and self education needs it. There’s also the discovery, finding out about new stuff that interests me, that’d be much harder without the internet.

Even if you removed several sites, if the 'net was something like it was back in 1994, there’d still be enough content and people around to get good amounts of information back and forth, plus file sharing.

As for time saved, just think about trying to discover, not even acquire or read, just know about, some 2 or 3 books in an “obscure” subject, something that your circle of contacts is unlikely to know anything about, that local book stores probably won’t have. Same applies for games or media that said circle of contacts are unlikely to know about. Basically, you have to take the dive and explore and, depending on what you were looking for, you’d come empty handed, or have to contend with a “better than nothing” alternative.

What online multiplayer games play well over wifi/higher latency?

I'm thinking turn-based games may work okay in this respect, but which of those might you recommend besides Civ? Also what other types of games work better over wifi/higher latency than you might expect?

I know ideally you'd simply wire up your system to not have to fuss with either, but it's not always an option in some circumstances.

Some real time strategy games might also work. I suspect Age of Empires 2 won’t be too problematic if the high latency only makes your orders take a bit longer to happen. Warcraft 3 (the original release) might also be worth checking, you can find private lobbies to use in place of Battle.Net. I suspect most Total War games might do fine, too, as even the real time battles don’t require a million clicks per second.

Old MMORPGs can also remain playable with up to ~600ms of latency, so you could give a try to WoW on private servers running older expansions, FF14 (free up to level 60, I think) or Guild Wars 2, for instance.

After nearly three years, it's finally time: My @godot remake of https://twitter.com/strongbadactual 's Stinkoman 20X6 is complete! Every level, every cutscene, and a whole lot more. To celebrate, I've put together a little trailer. https://ratheronfire.com/projects/stinkoman/ https://youtu.be/MitDNlfcgeM

Sound and music starts at 0, which makes the initial cutscene completely mute

Forgot to mention, I played only the web version, dunno if the others are fine. I’ve just tested on a private tab with Firefox and another private tab on Edge, both cases the sound was almost mute, probably 1%

@godot's timing on announcing the development fund is just chef's kiss. The landing page was out there without announcement for some time, I guess they simply took the opportunity as they should have :)

I’ve been working on 4 for about a month now, learning while doing, and being able to set up logic within the AnimationPlayer is one of the best things I’ve learned so far. It greatly reduced my need for Timer nodes
