I loved that in Lower Decks s3e1, they had the female characters in cool, modern future clothes, like in Discovery and Picard, but then the male characters wore the old-school color blocked nonsense. At one point, Rutherford actually says, “…my shirt could be more asymmetrical…”
Piracy isn’t a problem of price, it’s a problem of convenience. Five years ago, when there were less streaming services, and they had better libraries, way less people pirated stuff. Now that there are more of them, and their libraries are worse, piracy has become the convenient option again.
That’s the problem with the libraries. At this point, most streaming services only really have a handful of things on them that any given person will want to watch. I used to use Netflix almost daily. Now, I can’t remember the last time I opened the app, because there’s never anything I want to watch
Right, and what I’m saying is that because of these trends, there are really two options: pay for all of the services (or have a password sharing network), so you have a decent selection of shows, or, don’t pay for any of them. We’re getting to a point where a single streaming service isn’t worth the $12 it costs because it’s inconvenient and empty. I don’t expect it to get better.
As a compliment to the thread about near death experiences I’d really like hearing people’s experiences of losing consciousness under general anesthesia and what’s it like coming back....
I recently had that one medical procedure that no one likes to talk about. They had to put the IV in the webbing between my right ring finger and pinkie, because I was so dehydrated that they couldn’t hit a vein anywhere else. That was by far the worst part.
Once they were set up, they wheeled me into the OR, I chatted with a nurse for a minute or two, thought about commenting on the music, and then I woke up in my original hospital room with my girlfriend. It only took me a couple minutes and a cup of water to feel normal again. My girlfriend was very disappointed.
Then, we just got discharged, and I walked out, no problem. I actually went to get labs done that I needed for a different doctor. About an hour after I woke up, I felt a bit shaky, but that was it. It’s was the least intrusive thing ever. It felt like I just skipped part of the day and then continued as normal
Most of my coworkers can barely make it through their own tasks without fucking something up
This is a problem with the company you work for, not your coworkers. I’m sure if they were paid more, were given more agency, and received better training, they’d be better elployees
I found this after reading and responding to this post here about early Trek fans’ prejudicial negative reaction to TNG. It was tequila, lemon, thyme syrup, italicus liquor, soda water, and a smoke bubble. It tastes as good as it looks and we definitely got charged the instagram tax for its presentation.
Don’t rely on being able to stream content. Huge parts of the US don’t have cell coverage. Have a library of downloaded music, movies, TV shows, games, books, etc. prepared

There’s all kinds of laws like this that are super old, and really harmful in modern life. Like name changes having to be published in the paper, and home ownership being public information. Sorry trans people, if you want to legally change your name, you have to be out to everyone! And don’t even think about buying a house if there’s someone you don’t want knowing where you live, like an abusive family member or ex!
They’re left over from times when information was harder to come by, and they absolutely need to be changed, but our governments are bad at legislating for modern problems
It is actually! I have a friend who’s dad is extremely libertarian (despite having been a marine?), And he bought his house under an LLC for pricacy’s sake. I’m sure it would work for less crazy reasons as well
From what I’ve read, living in a house you buy yourself makes it lose most of the protection of an LLC, because you have “pierced the corporate veil”. All it really ends up doing is protecting your identity

Tech's broken promises: Streaming is now just as expensive and confusing as cable. Ubers cost as much as taxis. And the cloud is no longer cheap. (www.businessinsider.com)
Sooner or later, everything old is new again....
