• The episode title, “Lost in Translation” is a reference to the end of the episode when Kirk whispers something in Uhura’s ear before leaving the USS Enterprise and we, the audience, aren’t privy to what he says....
Uhura and the Kirks reason out that the deuterium in the nebula is part of extra-dimensional beings who’ve integrated themselves into the atomic structure of the gases. I would list all the times a nebula turned out to be alive, but the Lemmy posts do have a character limit.
This was definitely a big “Marty McFly pointing at the TV” moment for my family lol
The struggle appears to have led to a shattered glass door and blood splattered across the floor, video shows. At one point in the body camera footage, an officer asks Michael if it was “just an argument” between Young and wife.
That cop was trying to give him an out. Disgusting.

I absolutely agree with the second part. DS9 knew what they were doing with the grit they added. They still held to Federation values for the most part, and when they broke them, it was a big deal. And they also put in enough lightness to balance it out, like the episode in the final season where the whole crew basically takes the day off to do a heist in the holodeck.
But when Discovery and Picard took the grittiness further, it was just terrible, and you can definitely see some of the roots of that in DS9
I’m so excited to be leaving Texas finally!! I’ve lived here my whole life and just got a really exciting job in the Northeastern US. My partner (who is also trans) and I are so pumped to be out of here. Manifesting everyone else who’s living in a dangerous area can get the opportunity to leave like I have. Here’s hoping...
Mine is Grumpig. I like this psychic pig with elements of that “Pearls before Swine” quote from the Christian Bible that I was named after. It wears a lot of pearls on itself, and it’s a good dancer. The abilities it has imply that it’s a foodie species that goes at its own whims and tries to set its own pace for life.
I think Veluza is so cool. It was such a pleasant surprise in S&V, I had no idea it was in the game when I first found it, and I took it all the way to the end
There’s an in-world story in the Stormlight Archive about exactly this. The emperor of an island nation is so fearful that no one dares enter his tower. They are generally totally peaceful, but brutally murder anyone that makes a mistake, because their “Emperor won’t suffer failure.”
The characters in the story go to confront the emperor because they can’t stand for these murders, and find that the emperor is just a desicated corpse because no one has been into the tower for like 50 years. The island is thrown into chaos as the people are forced to come to terms with the fact that they’ve been killing each other for decades for no reason.
I’ve been thinking about having a dedicated thread for people to post about what their latest RPG experience was. If you want to go into detail, or just gush about favorite moments, or any fun/ny stuff you got to do or witness....
Ran Session 2 of my new PTU campaign. The party was exploring an abandoned mine trying to find a route through the mountains. It’s a pretty small dungeon, but they only made it through about 40%. The whole dungeon has a minecart puzzle running through it that they’re slowly figuring out, but so far they haven’t found a minecart.
At the end of the first combat, a Pokemon stole a basket belonging to one of the players, where they were holding an injured Pokemon they were taking care of. They didn’t manage to get it back before the Pokemon got away, so now they also have to search the mine to find their stolen Pokemon.
It’s also my first real physical map, which I made by cutting out tiles of wrapping paper and backing them with recycled cardboard. I have multiple tiles for rail intersections that I can swap out when they switch the tracks.
I’m working on a reread of Way of Kings right now (I have fully read the whole cosmere; this is my project while I wait for each secret project), and I just got to the part where Shallan’s siblings are talking to her via spanreed about the soulcaster....
I just made the Stiggin’s Fancy Old Fashioned from Educated Barfly’s video from today. I think it turned out exceptionally and quite intense if you enjoy that spectrum of cocktails....
My partner and I play audiobooks every night when we go to bed. It’s a great way to relax, and it helps for the Cosmere because hearing it so much makes it easier to catch clues and come up with theories
so maybe it creates a subset of [human] relationships that’s pretty small?
I think it’s this exactly. Meaningful friendships and found family are common elements in TTRPG inter-player character stories. You could do the same thing with romantic and sexual relationships, but it would take a very specific group to have fun and be comfortable roleplaying that. I’m sure they’re out there, but they’re not most people.
The Old Fashioned is my favorite drink. It introduced me to whiskey and mixology plus it's simple and versatile. I think it's easy to judge if a bar has good cocktails based solely on their Old Fashioned. What are your opinions, favorite variations, etc?
