Someone I know is having a baby, and I ran into their spouse. We were talking about how the due date is close, and I said I recommended something like mealtrain dot com (preferably something less corporate) where friends and family can sign up to drop off meals on your porch or sign up for other things/chores without disturbing the new parents. He looked at me, perplexed, and asked why they wouldn't be able to cook their meals after having a baby.

@cam I think it was harder for us because I was either soaking in the tub due to injuries and medicated soaks or getting the hang of breastfeeding. That is all. He had to do literally everything else.

The "too fat (but malnourished) as a child because all my food was unhealthy, too thin as a young adult because I didn't have enough food, too fat in middle age with metabolic disease" pipeline.

My daughter just had the best the doctor experience while getting her brain tumor removed in Roblox (game). Whoever the random kid was playing the surgeon really knew their stuff and aced bedside manner.

Just your occasional reminder that "bush meat" is a racist term. It is a way to make hunting wild animals seem shady in a way that is only applied to Africans. In the USA, deer is bush meat.

Based on comments, I want to know more, too. I was told this by Africans I know from Ghana and Tanzania and Nigeria. There are lots of campaigns against "bush meat" there, which targets Indigenous diets. The Jane Goodall Institute fights against "bush meat". When I saw her speak in Rochester, NY, I saw her speak against "bush meat". It had real "Save the Seals" vibes, which is part of the genocide against Inuit nations.

The Israeli state is fascist and is committing a horrific genocide, with the help of the USA, which dabbles in fascism. There are A LOT of similarities with the fascist Nazis, and it is not antisemitic to say so. It would be antisemitic to assume Jewish people are Zionists or vise versa, and it would be antisemitic to call a Jewish person a Nazi (Jewish hatred defines Nazism). But what is happening in Gaza shares a lot of similarities with the Holocaust, moreso every day. It is making me sick. I don't know what to do.

I keep thinking about "The Zone of Interest". It is the best Holocaust movie ever made. It is how it really was-- no one talking about it. Normal people-- not monsters. Cognitive dissonances noticed and silently struggled with. A lot of it is eerily relevant today. I think everyone should watch it.

    @path72 my daughter isn't non-verbal but she is autistic with selective mutism, and I think since she primarily communicated through drawing pictures and then writing when she learned how, she became a gifted writer and storyteller to the point of teachers telling me it is savant level. I really don't think that would have happened if anyone had made her speak.

    @path72 I even turned down an IEP plan at school. Any sort of option we could come up with was against their wills, so I said no. I feel so weird about it but know it is right. Before that I turned down early intervention ABA.

    Rich people have full time dog nannies/trainers who take their dogs to farms or play groups or other functions all day. I do not do this, but I know people who do, and I'm very judgemental.

    Another reason to a abolish cops (as if you needed one):

    Wastewater facilities might talk to cops who want to locate someone using DNA. But public health officials can't locate people they need to contact because of safeguards against this tracking. Wouldn't it be easier to just abolish police?

    @ch0ccyra1n I have never heard of any society that is not organized in some way. Even other animals organize themselves. Two rival big cats will share terrorizes in shifts for example-- you get the night and I get the day.
