The Oregon Employement Department not only denied my medical leave claim because of a paperwork error they made, now they denied my unemployment benefits because of an issue they won't even show me. I fucking hate them so much right now.

When I was fired back in 2022, my former employer wasn't clear when asked if they fired me and that led to my initial claim being denied. It sucked so much

“Wear the dress”

It’s sort of my transition YOLO. An imperative to trust myself when I’m not sure about, well, everything.

It’s a reminder I transitioned because it felt right, not because it made logical sense. So when logic shows up to say “Umm, actually your outfit might not be totally appropriate. A cis woman might…” I can quiet that voice with trust in myself.

I got here by trusting my feelings, not logic. So I ask myself what feels right. And then I wear the dress.

Oh god I was talking about Utena earlier and how it was my favourite anime in my university days, and... it just struck me how much of a role model Utena became for me:

  • unapologetically her (queer) self
  • kind-hearted and forgiving by default; she never goes looking for trouble
  • but when it finds her, she's exactly as tough and brave as she needs to be
  • fiercely protective of her friends, and critical of injustice
  • really good with a sword

Now that I have returned to okcupid and they insist on showing me straight people, my random sampling of straight people in southern California on the app has revealed an important finding: being straight is bad for your skin!!!?!

Seriously though, why do so many straight, cis women my age look like they are 10 or 20 years older than me? And like, I am used to us trans girls having estrogenated vampire skin, but even the cis lesbians have healthy skin well into their 40s and 50s.

I was also thinking straight folks in SoCal probably spent a lot of time at the beach or suntanning, and things like that in the 00s when it was popular, so sun damage was not an unlikely possibility.

@sashag @rachel my high school and university friends have said the same for me, marveling at how good my skin is. I keep advising the guys to just freaking use a face cream already and ask if they considered trying estrogen 🤣

And with the girls, i just flutter my eyelashes and explain that estrogen has been good to me.

When did young people stop getting taught how to write in paragraphs? 😅​

Grading papers and it just mystifies me that so many don't seem to understand the idea that when you start a new topic/subject, you should start a new paragraph....rather than a 20-sentence-long paragraph that makes your teacher do the work to try to figure out if you actually are answering the different elements of the question. 😑​

@RoseRaven Yeah, I might suspect it would be more of a social norm thing - that those seen as boys were left more to their own devices during the pandemic whereas those perceived as girls were more closely monitored or encouraged to be studying and such.

I've seen that happen to in-person learning too, with many of the girls I taught not being given as much leeway to do what they wanted, where as the boys were expected to be independent and self-directed. And that meant very big differences in how many of the boys and girls actually did their homework or reviewed what they learned.
