@ColinTheMathmo I actually felt closer to solution than the pathway looks like I was.
I am not worried about wrong words, I fill in words I see until there are a few leftover letters, then rearrange. (Vs. being frozen because I can't see how to choose)

@albertcardona My set is probably 15+ years old (my sons are both 21+)
We have some punctures from a pencil and some missing pieces... there are actually 2 sets in that bin: the darker set on the right is slightly thicker/bigger in dimension & a bit heavier per piece the lighter set on the left has more pieces but is more "flimsy".
I also seem to have longer pieces: columns and oblongs.

Undecided whether to keep for posterity (no grandchildren on the horizon) or donate to a thrift shop for someone else to enjoy.

Buying a flight here in the USA, and it turns out that AA hasn't implemented the most recent updates to customer authentication, so the credit card is declined.

Then try the Debit Card, and they want to send me a OTP, but I'm using a local SIM and don't have access to any of the numbers they have on record.

So I can't buy the ticket.

That's ... suboptimal.

(PS: It did get sorted, so no assistance required, but thank you if that was your first reaction)

@ColinTheMathmo this is one of the challenges of international travel !!

My son is working in Singapore for 6 months. He has a local phone (but he's kept his US phone contract). He kept incurring $10 per day "travel pass" charges from Verizon due to 2-factor authorization texts... finally turned off Verizon's travel pass to do "pay-as-you go" which is cheaper for a few texts.

Hope the rest of your arrangements are easier...

When I went to graduate school, I had to be revaccinated for measles. They told me that people vaccinated between 1963 and 1967 received a faulty dose and may NOT be protected. Please do what's necessary to protect yourself NOW before something bad happens.

@StillIRise1963 It was memorable! My family was friendly with our pediatrician socially. So he came to my house to give the vaccine and they had to catch me, as I ran away in fear! My younger sister didn't have to get one, she was born in 1969.

I meant that if I checked more often, I would do more from the archive... I've got about 598 puzzles I haven't done yet 😉
And for my only important steak, I have the app Flow Free on my phone... and a 3+ year streak going. Had to strategize last year when I flew to New Zealand & "missed" a day (turns out your phone on Wi-Fi doesn't know you're missing a day, so it's all good)

A Flow Free daily puzzle from today. There are 7 pairs of colored dots scattered on a 7 by 7 grid. Object is to connect the same colors without crossing and fill the entire grid with the flow paths.

OK, I need a reality check.

There is a flight ATL->MEL with two changes, takes 29:30, costs £907

Or I can get a flight ATL->SFO for about £100, then after about 24 hrs on the ground, a flight SFO->MEL with one change for about £640.

The saving will let me have the hotel room, and I save money.

What could possibly go wrong? The 24 hr gap seems long enough to allow for delays, and there are other flights ATL->SFO if the booked flight gets cancelled.

Total transit time is 50 hrs. Is the ~£150 saving worth it?

@ColinTheMathmo Aah, I understand. I didn't realize that the ATL-SFO also had a stop and then another stop on SFO-MEL.
I usually will pay (somewhat) more to avoid stops, even if the "airline is responsible" for getting me there... (bc that could mean significant delays if airline can't just rebook me on next flight, especially at peak flying weeks)
But it seems that you will have several stops along the way in either case.

The following will probably only make sense to people in the UK.

I have a vague sense that the job of "lollipop person" used to be fairly strongly gendered, but I can't remember which way - is it lollipop man, or lollipop lady? I feel like "lollipop lady" sounds more like what I said growing up, but both lollipop people at my kids' school are men and I've overthought it and now I'm suffering from semantic satiation.

So, was it a lollipop man or a lollipop lady when you were at school?

@christianp right, makes no sense to me (outside of UK). I don't think I've ever heard of a lollipop person associated with schools in the US. Can you explain?
[and yes, gendered notions of who volunteers /works at elementary schools is similar, as is undervaluing work done without compensation.]
