Kiss From a Rose by Seal?

LemmySoloHer,
@LemmySoloHer@lemmy.world avatar

Woo! I’d like to thank Season 3 Episode 7 of Community for causing me to think about this song far more than I ever would otherwise.

Also a fantastic show/episode! Weirdly I’m just now getting the joke that the singer Frank was in love with, Shay Dynasty, is spelled Shadynasty.

Which is interesting thinking back on it. It might not have been the best Batman movie, but the Batman Forever soundtrack bumped two hit singles with “Kiss From a Rose” by Seal, and “Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me” by U2. Both got lots of radio time, both music videos were huge hits, and both got their push from the soundtrack and movie marketing.

Excellent guess, not the right song but definitely close! Here’s a hint: both of our songs have four people credited as the songwriters.

LemmySoloHer,
@LemmySoloHer@lemmy.world avatar

A good guess, but not the right song! Here’s a hint: both of our songs released in the same decade (2000-2009).

A really great guess but unfortunately not the right song. Here’s a hint, though I’m not sure anyone will see it since I seem to be the only one posting here that still gets downvoted into the negatives half the time just for playing: your song was released in 1998, my song released in a different decade.

LemmySoloHer,
@LemmySoloHer@lemmy.world avatar

Done but this is an issue.

LemmySoloHer,
@LemmySoloHer@lemmy.world avatar

A good guess, but unfortunately not the song. Here’s a hint: your song was commissioned for a movie soundtrack, my song was not.

LemmySoloHer,
@LemmySoloHer@lemmy.world avatar

A really great guess, definitely similarities, but unfortunately not the song. Here’s a hint: your song peaked in the Top Ten for the U.S. Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Billboard weekly charts, my song didn’t chart in the Top Ten for that category but did chart in the Top 50.

LemmySoloHer,
@LemmySoloHer@lemmy.world avatar

Excellent guess, but unfortunately not the same song! Here’s a hint: your song features some truly fantastic verses from female rappers, my song does not.

LemmySoloHer,
@LemmySoloHer@lemmy.world avatar

A great guess that I was actually expecting sooner, but unfortunately not the right song! Here’s a hint: both of our songs have four people listed as the songwriters.

LemmySoloHer,
@LemmySoloHer@lemmy.world avatar

A great guess, but while they have some similar imagery from this line, it is not the song! Here’s a hint: your song released in the 70s, my song was released in a different decade.

LemmySoloHer,
@LemmySoloHer@lemmy.world avatar

A good guess but not the right song. Here’s a hint: your song is from an Australian band, my song is from an American band.

Everything is Alright by Motion City Soundtrack?

LemmySoloHer,
@LemmySoloHer@lemmy.world avatar

Correct! You guessed it, you got it and all in under five minutes, well done!

LemmySoloHer,
@LemmySoloHer@lemmy.world avatar

Haha believe it or not this was also one of the least blatant images produced as a lot of them pretty much had the Cadillac logo too. I only got one to generate a clock with him in a bar instead that I wanted to use but it also gave him a white hat. Regardless, you recognizing it instantly is a win for Punk Rock and Punk Ska on this day!

Battleships confide in me and tell me where you are

I believe you are guessing “Yours Is No Disgrace” by Yes, which is an excellent guess! Both of our songs share some similar themes, but are not the same song. Here’s a hint: Your song was originally released in the 1970s, my song was released sometime in the following century (2000 and beyond).
