I kinda feel this one.. I grew up with the idea that someday I would own my very own house but nowadays that seems like a distant dream. And I’m freaking 31 already

@stux owning your own home, and real estate investment in general, used to be a long term investment. People used to get a decent return on the house they raised their familie in. And then they could move on to the next stage in their life. Now you have all these huge, short term, fast return on investment locusts, that make owning a home, or even renting one without getting into debt, imposdible.

Oof.. we just heard a loud bang from downstairs with our elderly neighbors so I called to ask if they needed help. Turns out they did since this time the woman had fallen down

Took some time to calm her and her husband down and checked for injuries, it seems they are lucky every time so far but I’m worried that will end some day..

At least she’s back in bed now :blobcathearts:

The price of Huggies diapers went up 6% between April- June 2023.

Inflation, right? Wrong.

Kimberly-Clark, the maker of Huggies, reported that the cost to make its products fell by $75 million.They took the money and ran, banking $168 million in operating profits in Q3 2023.

Now, new research shows that corporate profits drove 53% of inflation during the 2nd and 3rd quarters of 2023. During the 40 years prior to the pandemic, profits drove just 11% of price growth.

@rbreich in Dutch we have a new word for that, "graaiflatie", it translates as grabflation in English. It was voted word of the year in Both the Netherlands and the Dutch speaking part of Belgium.

@Radical_EgoCom Meanwhile in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, that used to have a focus on housing the population and transition to a houding market over the last 25 years. Excellerated in the last 10, children grow obese because their families live in a 1000 euro a month room without cooking facilities. So they are forced to live on fast food.

Since the terrible war started in Ukraine I've been looking for ways to help where ever I can but I feel it's not enough

Would it be an idea that I create an open source web application where people can submit 'war crime evidence' with a 'what, where & who'

Maybe it can be used after the war to serve justice for Ukraine somehow..

Ofc the real challenge is to 'verify' the content though

It's just an idea, let me know what you think

@stux you could get in touch with the public prosecution of the The Hague Tribunal to find out what they would need exactly and how the want it presented. I think it is a great idea. It could have its use for other conflicts as well. 👍

Coca Cola is a perfect example of a 'run away company' that's just unstoppable

They simply decline all responsiblilty in cleaning their trash while making the plastic pollution issue much worse

The company has stupid responses like:

"We will invest in the local community to teach them about recycling"

While there are NO places to recylce the bottles 🙄

It's just insane how fast we pollute our shared planet for consumption but mostly greed because I do believe we CAN do better

@stux last year I heard a coca cola spokesperson on French radio say that mentioning a request to recycle on the bottle caps is a serious effort at sustainability. Repeated in a very serious tone when the journalist doing the interview asked if he was for real with that statement.

The people from the animal ambulances here in the Netherlands are worried for this summer when a lot of people go on vacation and dump their animal somewhere cause it's not "convenient".. 😠

If it comes to animals, people should really have 1 strike and after that they're out.. :nkoHammer:

Think twice and do your fcking homework before taking on the care of an animal (or kid)
