Shut the front door!

You’re kidding. Selling things and letting people know you sell things are tied inextricably to making money off the things you sell and increasing the number of people who are aware you sell things?

No fucking way.

MattHatton,
@MattHatton@aus.social avatar

@decryption Yeah, it’s the “why doesn’t everyone just automatically see the value in this that I do” thing, paired with a bit of Computer Man Brain.

How to tell, in three words, that you're about to read something that is incredibly stupid.

MattHatton,
@MattHatton@aus.social avatar

"We find the critical role of technology in supporting
business growth is increasingly being recognised."

I, too, have a computer at work.

MattHatton,
@MattHatton@aus.social avatar

"Optical recognition paired with visual data analytics can identify hazards in real time, reducing potential accidents on-site"

Imaging falling off the side of a building because the VR headset told you to.

MattHatton,
@MattHatton@aus.social avatar

LMFAO.

I dunno, guys. Maybe concentrate on what is clearly the bigger fucking problem with your industry first - not understanding how long it takes to do a thing and what it will cost to do it.

This seems somewhat more fundamental to your success than whether or not you've fitted out thet site office with Vision Pro headsets.

"The highest priority use case is using AI to assess and identify profitable project opportunities"

Right. Go back a few steps.

How does this gel with the data you're giving it that is wrong half the time?

MattHatton,
@MattHatton@aus.social avatar

"Every time we budget and timeline a project, it ends up being wrong. But if we teach this to the computer it will get it right"

????? Sure, man.

MattHatton,
@MattHatton@aus.social avatar

"Effectively using generative AI will require finding more people with skills in this emerging area"

Presented without comment.

Moving on.

"The importance of technology as a gender equaliser"

wot

MattHatton,

BEHOLD THE EFFICIENCY.

ONLY ONE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS MORE THAN IT SHOULD HAVE!

I am sad to report the duck cost $100m more than expected.

MattHatton,
@MattHatton@aus.social avatar

"More specialised technologies and those with fewer direct use cases in construction and engineering had significantly lower levels of usage, such as blockchain (25%)"

Show me the one in four construction companies using blockchain. Who are they?

MattHatton,
@MattHatton@aus.social avatar

"“Even within the organisation, roles are constantly being redefined, meaning employees can find it difficult to absorb some of the new technologies. It will be a journey in terms of education and realising opportunities for creativity, even with automation and robotics"

No one knows what they should be doing or how they should be doing it because we keep finding new shiny toys to throw at them and demand they get used why is my workforce so inefficient?

MattHatton,
@MattHatton@aus.social avatar

" AI as a tool that could simulate workflows and identify solutions to conduct advanced feasibility studies incorporating the social elements in the design stage that are often difficult to quantify, such as how to minimise noise and aximise natural light in a unit complex"

Both those things can - literally - be quantified.

This document keeps talking about "mobile apps" but has not once (I am 30 pages in) offered anything more than those two words to describe what they mean.

MattHatton,
@MattHatton@aus.social avatar

I am howling like a monkey at this.

Right. So. $100m in revenue turned into $20m profit.

20c on the dollar.

Chucking more computer at it raised $1.4m extra revenue and $200,000 profit.

Which is...less than 20c in the dollar.

HOW IS THAT BETTER?

Oh, yes, also it made such a small fraction of a percent difference to the outcome that it could probably also be explained by a simple margin of error comparing surveys.

MattHatton,
@MattHatton@aus.social avatar

“Even if you put information into a repository, people may not know how to find it. Previously, we would have to do a keyword search and parse through many documents. Now, with the use of AI, the return of information is much more relevant, making the knowledge search process faster.”

....let me ask you this. When you're talking to your A*I** knowledge base. Are you using certain words that pertain to the information you are seeking?

MattHatton,
@MattHatton@aus.social avatar

"Sunway has also been using AI technology, paired with cloud,
to improve worker safety. Previously, static images of noncompliances were captured by the users using their mobile phones and shared within the site for safety monitoring. However, this process was inefficient as it did not allow for real-time interventions in safety"

Gareth was too busy taking a photo of Steven falling off the platform to tell Steven that he shouldn't be on the platform in the first place. AI will make this better.

Our new systems are generating unmanagable amounts of data.

What if we put more systems on top of those systems to manage that output?

MattHatton,
@MattHatton@aus.social avatar

"Yes, if we could somehow make this thing relevent to my work it would, indeed, be relevent to my work"

Who decided that Hydrogen was “the future of decarbonisation” and why was it rich pricks like Andrew Forrest?

MattHatton,
@MattHatton@aus.social avatar

@jonoabroad @franksting Hydrogen will good for stuff like replacing diesel in trucking - where you can build out a number of refuelling places specifically for it - your Linfoxes and Tolls and the like can incorporate it into the fleets and existing hubs. Better than batteries.

Doing that for passenger cars is...tricky, just becasue of the scale. And that batteries are much better, and electricity is already everywhere.

MattHatton,
@MattHatton@aus.social avatar

@jonoabroad @franksting For sure. TBH, it'll be a bit of everything - that's how most of this stuff is going to work out.

Some will do the numbers and arrive at battery trucks, others will do the same and probably arrive at hydrogen. It's all about finding the best solution for any particular need.

Not particularly technical friend had several drinks, changed their laptop password and set the password hint to "lol" so I'm dealing with that now.

MattHatton,
@MattHatton@aus.social avatar

@geordie Really, I’m impressed. I doubt I could reset my password, even after 30 beers I thought it was a good idea, after a solid session.

MattHatton,
@MattHatton@aus.social avatar

@geordie That said, I could imagine trying to see if I could register the tip of my dick on TouchID.
