This is so depressing… I’d been seeing it in effect but I didn’t know all the context. We need more and better alternative search engines, like Stract.

EDIT: Actually, are any of the searXNG instances including Stract yet?

Measure the ends, design some 3d printable caps, maybe? Except it sounds like you might need a LOT of them, 3d printing isn’t as good for that… maybe make a mold for a cap and then thermoform a bunch off of it? Orrr maybe it could be easier to grind the ends down instead?

It would be very ill advised, but SO MANY. Enough to organize them. There’s a mall nearby that’s slowly shutting down, it’s like 99% empty now, and there are homeless encampments all outside it being hassled by cops. Instead of giving it to them, it’s gonna wind up bulldozed and turned into rich people condos. I’d make enough clones to occupy it and turn it into adhoc co-op housing!

…And obviously like all the boning and other stuff one does with clones as well lol.

I’m also curious about the laser engraving process! What are the keycaps made out of, and what settings/type of laser did you use on them? This isn’t something anyone has used our laser for, and I’d like to recommend it to my patrons.

In the post-apocalypse book Seeds for the Swarm, there’s a group called the Wastrels who focus on “living with one’s trash”. Basically dedicating their lives to cleaning up the waste of the previous generations who caused the apocalypse, and not making any more. They either find ways to break it down or they reuse it.

I bring this up because each member finds a particular waste material that calls to them, and takes it as their name, i.e. Polypropylene. It was punk as hell.

I dunno about your subscribes, but mine are usually about roughly an hour a day’s worth of scrolling lol. Definitely way quieter than the big platforms, but enough for me. I also try to contribute to the niche ones when I’ve got something worth posting

I use this all the time, real filament saver! For the overwhelming majority of real world use cases, the strength of a part has much more to do with the walls than the interior, so it shouldn’t really be any weaker. Just make sure your walls are thick enough.

Literally just finding out that medical transition was a thing that existed, that’s all it took lol. I had known trans people at various points in my life and often said “I wish I could do that!”, etc. I actually thought they were all just born lucky enough to look how they wanted, nobody ever told me there was stuff you could do about it.

There actually is a fediverse TikTok equivalent being developed! I’m not sure what the current status of it is, but it does already have rudimentary functionality. I bet the developer(s) might appreciate some help working on it, if anyone has the time/coding skills/money/etc to contribute. Somebody else mentioned Tumblr, and that exists too! So many cool projects being worked on, I regularly check this list to see what’s new, and it’s really heartwarming to see all the work people are putting into making the fediverse such a awesome place. There’s even a Tinder-esque dating app!

Personally, equivalents I would love to see include:

  • Archive of Our Own
  • RPC/F-List/roleplay platform
    • (I’m actually trying to work on one of these myself, but I’m an amateur so don’t get your hopes up lol)
  • Etsy
  • Ravelry
  • A search engine
    • (And not just a metasearch using the same index as Google/Bing/etc)

Me: “Oh, I am the patient.”

Them: “I’m sorry, I thought this was about scheduling a vasectomy.”

Me: “It is.”

Them: “…” Me: “…”

Them: “I would need to speak to the person who would be getting the operation.”

Me: “That’s me, I would be.”

Them: “…” Me: “…”

This went around at least a couple more times. I guess the voice training was paying off? 😅

Where I live it’s easily 50/50, nobody wants to wait their turn. You can tell who’s gonna be problem too because they always have fancy rich people cars.

This is how I host any images that I post to Lemmy, because I assume Pixelfed is more equipped to host images than Lemmy is. As a bonus, if you use a direct link to the image as the link in your Lemmy post, the image shows up just as if you’d uploaded it directly to the post. No clickthrough needed
