One important note about the mouse shitting out live action remakes, they want to hold the copyright for as long as possible.

They don’t care if Aladdin with Will Smith only makes a 10% return (Hollywood accounting), because they’ve renewed their claim on the IP and merchandising the blue corpse of Robin Williams Genie far exceeds any film profits. They make more than $5 billion per year just on licensing fees.

It seems like you and the downvoters completely missed the point of the article.

It’s saying that most fans don’t care and it’s just a vocal minority speaking out? It’s not supporting the culture wars, it’s saying they’re overblown.

I’m not a Daily Mail apologist, but your comment is completely at odds with the article.

Two Chinese nationals charged in US with trying to export banned semiconductor machinery to China — one arrested in Chicago (www.tomshardware.com)

Two Chinese nationals have been charged for an alleged scheme to illegally export a semiconductor dicing machine to a Chinese tech company. One of the two, Han Li, 44, was arrested in Chicago on Wednesday, while Lin Chen, 64, is believed to be in China. The charges and arrest are the latest developments in a protracted trade war...

I work in manufacturing and these US companies are all registered with multiple US agencies. There are tons of regulations controlling what you sell to whom if you’re working in an area that is considered a national security priority.

For a big precision machine like this one they probably file a report for each one they sell, and include to whom they are selling. If these buyers proferred false docs they would be immediately flagged for a three letter agency to review when the seller’s docs hit the system.

The internet was better 25-30 years ago. No rose glasses needed. It was the wild west, and now we’re just hopping from walled garden to walled garden.

You know you can just take the diploma and not show up? My college wanted like $200 for the official cap and gown. I said fuck that and moved out graduation weekend.

They mail out the real diploma anyway.

“Oh well you didn’t get that memory!” Of what? Being fleeced by the corporation that just fleeced me for four years, so I can be hot for 3 hours sitting nowhere near anyone I’ve met before? No thanks, I went to dinner with my GF (now wife) and had more fun than anyone who went.

$1900 per second is a hell of a burn rate for anything outside the US military

Glorious American Capitalism. Enshittification is just a word for the financialization of everything. Finance Bros run the world, and they know you have another .0265٪ disposable income they can get to make their line go up another quarter.

Everything about this is wrong.

  • Graboids are the smallest, maxing out at 10 meters in length.
  • The Sarlaac pit is just the mouth. The actual Sarlaac is 100 meters long https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/f9e675de-15da-42ee-9ab7-852b1c3efa3c.jpeg
  • The Beetlejuice Sandworm has a head slightly larger than an average door, so about 1 meter wide.
  • Shai Hulud get up to 1000 meters in length (pre-Brian Herbert Lore) and around 40-50 meters wide.

That only further proves the point of the post.

He lost everything: fame, success, and his good looks. He became a homeless radioactive cowboy with bad skin and no nose.

He has personality though. He’s fun and interesting. He’s confident and capable. That’s exactly why some people find him attractive.

They’re saying why are they the only ones getting dragged out of the comfort zone.

This is actually a sign of rampant corruption. Bribery is a tight market, and with a lot of politicians willing to accept bribes the cost drops significantly. It’s one of the few areas where capitalism behaves as believed.

Urgent need to investigate role of technology, social media companies in killing Gazan civilians (euromedmonitor.org)

The role of major technology companies and international social media platforms in the killing of Palestinian civilians during Israel’s genocidal war against the Gaza Strip, ongoing since 7 October 2023, must be investigated. These companies need to be held accountable if found to be complicit or not to have taken adequate...

I’m muted on threads and insta since I commented on Sentaor John Fettermans account with an image of a Guardian report about Netanyahu rejecting a ceasefire including returning the hostages.

Fetterman was posting about how they need to return the hostages, and I said they tried, but Bibi doesn’t want the hostages back. He wants war.

Anyway I’ve got a mystery time out now, so anything I try to comment tells me I’m not allowed for 2 weeks.

It’s a very fitting quote for an ad barrage

At least read the article before commenting. They’re dressing this way on purpose against the wishes of their employers.

You have completely flipped the context of the quote. It’s not just comfort for comforts sake, it’s also a way of protesting the 996 work culture of China.

The article is definitely stating that this is a protest, your quote is about a fringe benefit.

Social media users have joked that if you wear your favorite outfit to work, it’ll be contaminated by the “Ban Wei” as the office vibe creeps into your personal life.

The remaining option: wear your gross clothes to the office.

Candise Lin who creates content on TikTok exploring cultural trends in China, broke down this viral trend in a recent video.

She used an example of one blogger who said that they only wears clothes with holes in them to work to reflect their “crappy job and shabby pay.”

Clearly stated like 2 paragraphs after your quote.

Pick a position and stick with it for more than a single comment:

It is not protest for the sake of protest, but mostly “convenience”.

It is a protest using existing social expectations of dress code, it’s not just about comfort.

“Protest for the sake of protest” is nonsense. By definition they’re doing it for the sake of something. That something is not convenience, it’s the 996 work culture like the subject of the article.

You’re not making any sort of factual statement, you’re making a series of suppositions about people you’ve not met without any underlying evidence or even a firm idea on what problem you say you’re identifying.

You’re sharing your (uninformed) opinion and expecting others to give it weight.
