PaulHammond51,

@65dBnoise
I'm assuming that it is the symbol used by the bolt manufacturer. The closest I could find is 'Pennsylvania Industrial Fasteners' who stamped the letters 'Pi' on their fasteners. But the most recent reference I can find is from 2014. Maybe they changed it to ฯ€? :)

NASA SpaceFlight had a very interesting live interview with Travis Brown, PhD, 's current Chief Engineer. Travis said that in spite of an original though/assumption that Ingenuity's rotors had hit the ground during landing of , they now tend to believe that it was rather a very hard landing that damaged the rotors, since there is no evidence anywhere on the regolith of a blade hit.

Have you checked the LOS to the helicopter yet?

I'm hoping that they will continue to acquire ground images (from time to time) Been a few weeks since the last image.

Thanks.

Fingers crossed for more images, and that blog post detailing the accident :)

PaulHammond51,
@PaulHammond51@fosstodon.org avatar

@sharponlooker @65dBnoise

I just finished watching it. Nothing on the accident.

The main take away for me was the blobs of dust on the NavCams that floated around in the animated images. It was inside the camera lens as it was the lowest point inside the helicopter. I'd always mistakenly assumed they were motes of dust that were clumping on the outside of the lens :)

That plus a lot of maps that might have some place names we've not seen yet (or probably I just missed them) :)

@PaulHammond51@fosstodon.org avatar

@65dBnoise Agreed, it's all over the place. It would take a special kind of mission nerd to even want to consider even taking on that task, never mind having the skills to batch process the images, sort them in the correct sequence, and then assemble them in to a GIF / video...

From time to time #Perseverance uses its fixed down looking camera, or EDL_RDCAM, to record movies of, well, the ground ๐Ÿฅด , probably while the ground radar RIFMAX does its thing. And let's not forget that it's the same camera that captured those epic images during the rover's descent to the Martian ground.

Maybe LittleAssistant is not looking in the right place :) Try selecting movie frames on the raw server, or use Aerobrowser to view Sol 910:

https://areobrowser.com/#/mode=perseverance&instruments=ED&timeframe=sol:910

PaulHammond51,
@PaulHammond51@fosstodon.org avatar

@65dBnoise I realise there was no drive on 910, but that's probably the same time stamp issue that the EDL cameras have been plagued with since landing.

IIRC the images are captured by the camera, but only assigned a timestamp when they are transferred to the the main computer. So I guess we can safely assume the images were acquired before sol 910 :)

As for your LA, maybe time to put it back in learn mode. It's already way faster than us mere nerdy morals, it can only get better :)

Thought of a sound clip I replaced on my office Apple Mac SE, it was set to play in place of the 'Error Beep' ๐Ÿคฃ

"I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that"

Raised a few smiles back in the day...
