The announcers love to glaze tf out of TJ McConnell. Nothing gets announcers more excited than smaller white guys finding success. “Gritty”, “just knows how to play the game” 🤮

Phreba,
@Phreba@shakedown.social avatar

@mrcompletely my 17 yo son pointed out the difference between how announcers talk about white players vs black players. It’s all I notice now while watching basketball. And yes, TJ is a good player.

Baseball friends, don’t sleep on this pirates rookie Paul Skenes.

In his 2nd major league appearance, he’s:

  • thrown 6 innings of no-hit ball (he’s on a pitch count, done for the day)
  • got 11 strikeouts
  • ended his day throwing pitches of 99mph and 100mph

Skenes is special. ⚾️

@davemark if anyone was sleeping on Skenes, can they call themselves a baseball fan?Watched him last year at LSU and then he goes first pick. He’s a phenom!

The has serious officiating issues. Too many reviews, indecisive calls, bad calls and just too many calls. No flow.

Phreba,
@Phreba@shakedown.social avatar

@spelled_with_a_k rick Carlisle (pacers coach) got fined 35k for talking about the bad officiating. My problem with hockey is I barely understand what constitutes a foul unless it’s an obvious crosscheck or hooking foul.

defense is dreadful without OG. Hard to watch.

Phreba,
@Phreba@shakedown.social avatar

@Jonathanglick no rotation, no grit, easy layups for guys like McConnell. Ffs, lay someone out when they come in the lane.

Lots of fun, free stuff at Dillon this Summer. While it will never be as iconic as Red Rocks, I actually like it better: cleaner/louder sound, better views, better weather (usually), better vibe, less work (outside of the drive), and much cheaper for beer/drinks.

Phreba,

@chopaganda yeah, this place looks amazing. I’ve been to red rocks a few times, and while unique and pretty cool all around. I found the actual concert experience less than fantastic last time I was there for JRAD 2019. Overcrowded and we were midway up and felt like we had to work for the sound.

Drums sound weird af. Like zero resonance or something. Hard to put my finger on it.

Surprise show last night. Til about 4;00 yesterday, was settled on passing up show. Friend twisted my arm with a ticket and whoah am I glad I went! Outstanding show!

Phreba,

@ShakedownSax yeah, I found myself at the back of the seated section for GA, tons of room back there. But yeah, classically oversold cap show.

@ShakedownSax second set view

Phreba,
@Phreba@shakedown.social avatar

@ShakedownSax lol, cap Security is soooo aggro. Only time I’ve had my pen or any apparatus taken in 35 years of concerts was at cap during a weir and wolf show a few yrs ago. Now, I know to just be super stealth. Good to know about Trevor side, may hit that up on Tuesday/wednesday

Phreba,
@Phreba@shakedown.social avatar

@ShakedownSax I was mid ga 15 rows back. Hit the pen, exhale straight up(dumb). 20 sec later I’m getting shirt collared, and harangued all the way to the front doors. They copy my Drivers license info and tell me next time I get caught, out of cap for good. I was ranting at them the whole way that this was so damn excessive. They don’t screw around there.

Phreba,
@Phreba@shakedown.social avatar

@fogelnet @ShakedownSax yup, of all the venues I regularly attend, it’s by far and away one of my least favorite. I’ve learned a lot about how to make it work. But, your points are spot on. The worst part is that you expect it to be jam fans friendly, think twice.

@lizardllama never forget washing hands next to Marshall at Dick’s in 2019. They had played Pebbles in set 1 and it’s a fave. I said to Tom “hey pebbles, huh?!? Thank you for writing that, it’s a favorite”, his reply, “and they played number line!!!”. Lol, just a little bit defensive about that song.

Phreba,
@Phreba@shakedown.social avatar

@thesizzler @lizardllama yup, btw, I’m no hater of # line. Honestly wish they’d deliver the jam on it like they did in summer ‘09, but it’s been ages.

An earlier discussion of 84 - 85 era dead made me relisten to part of 7/02/85

I guess there are Lost Sailor haters out there, but this one was memorable to me then, and it still seems great now.

Maybe the Crazy Fingers before helped set the mood.

@mrcompletely @dave_heumann @thesizzler @tor_haxson speaking of Bob songs, someone tell my why Esau wasn’t a staple in their repertoire for years to come. One of my favorite Bob tunes.

Phreba,
@Phreba@shakedown.social avatar

@mrcompletely @dave_heumann @thesizzler @tor_haxson yeah, he kept changing the lyrics. Much as he did with BT Wind. Listened to an ‘83 show today and was reminded as to how much I love that tune.

Palm Royale on Apple: watch it! Incredible cast-too many greats to list. Kristen Wiig is lead, many other famous actors and several you will recognize, look up on IMDB and go, “Yes, that is____!” Example: Hurley’s mom from Lost. Campy, funny, great set design and costumes (very Mad Men era), feminist tropes that resonate loudly today, but entertaining w/o going that deep if you don’t want to.

Phreba,
@Phreba@shakedown.social avatar

@SarahSingsank @chopaganda @2dogphish severance is arguably the best series I’ve seen since breaking bad. It’s sooooo good. Outstanding on every level. Slow burn at first, but goddamn I can’t wait for season 2.

Some on Mastodon just love to take a tiny sliver of good news and turn it into doom or cheap shots.

I’m done w/ people who do that.

I’m fine with genuine RATIONAL POLITE disagreements or criticism. I have to point that out since I’ve been accused of/blocked for intolerance of diff opinions👈🏼which I’ve always welcomed

This is about mudslinging, labels, name-calling, misinfo, & disdain for scarce positives & replying w something designed to provoke &/or kneejerk-negate welcome news. Kthxbye.

Phreba,
@Phreba@shakedown.social avatar

@GottaLaff for real, it’s maddening. The most self righteous among us can’t help themselves with their commitment to never ending snark and doomsdayism.

Phreba,
@Phreba@shakedown.social avatar

@GottaLaff the problem is that when your online persona is dedicated to pessimism and skepticism, you’ve got no answer when presented with a ray of light. All of those people desperately need a dog and to get out and touch grass. And their response is always dripping with condescension. Tbh, it must be so exhausting for them.

Phreba,
@Phreba@shakedown.social avatar

@GottaLaff @tuban_muzuru I don’t see this as “self pity”, if anything it’s pity for those that can’t accept any good news in their life.

Phreba,
@Phreba@shakedown.social avatar

@GottaLaff @tuban_muzuru yeah, the beauty of masto for so long was that we didn’t have the typical social media snark and bs. Increasingly; starting to see it creep in.

I find it incredible that the number one payment app, Venmo, defaults to sharing your payments and payment information with all your contacts that have Venmo. I feel like most don’t realize it, and for those that do, why would you want your payments public? I don’t get it, someone make this make sense.
