These combined SARS-CoV-2 and Influenza A/B home lateral flow tests could be quite useful.
How would it change management?
How well might it facilitate early detection for those in which antivirals such as Oseltamivir are indicated and treatment needs to be started within 48hrs of symptom onset?
Could false -ves delay treatment where people avoid seeking better diagnostic tests?

Particulate matter counts inside the operating theater (situated on the anaesthetic machine) before and after commencing surgical diathermy (burning human).

There is a reason why so much effort is put into operating room .

CDC seeks to update guidance to reflect recognition of aerosol viral spread.

“The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has asked the Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee (HICPAC) to clarify its guideline on isolation precautions to reflect the "widespread recognition" that respiratory viruses spread primarily through aerosols, according to a CDC blog post this week.”

Just discovered “Tag Groups” on @IceCubesApp. You can create a custom stream based on a collection of tags (similar to feeds on BlueSky). Didn’t understand the point of it until I tried it and it’s actually pretty great.

@Aparachick the other website relies on the transition costs being high to keep you there. Whether you’re 60 or 20 it will take a little time and effort to transition but it’s worth it.

The “Feeds” functionality of Bluesky is an interesting approach to surfacing relevant posts using custom inclusion/exclusion criteria for phrases and post attributes (number of reposts/likes etc).
While I personally use and like , I see this as a barrier to entry for new users that the feeds solves.
Is this something that something like Mastodon/ActivityPub can implement?

“Yet when appearing in interviews or alongside Johnson in daily press briefings, none of their concerns were publicly articulated. Both reinforced govt messaging, & their daily presence next to the prime minister made them seem supportive & aligned with the policies & direction the country was taking. They made the “mad king” seem believable to the public. Too often they were used by a dysfunctional government to appear competent & scientifically literate”

A privately run, publicly funded hospital is under financial pressure. “Cracking down on overtime” is one proposed element of the strategy towards becoming solvent.
This would mean hiring more staff or reducing demand.
People generally don’t like working overtime.

It’s a protocol tussle between the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) recommended Activitypub decentralised social media protocol (Mastodon, FireFish, Threads[maybe], PixelFed, Wordpress etc) https://www.w3.org/TR/activitypub/ and ATProtocol (Bluesky).
It’s disappointing seeing the attention that is migrating away from Twitter heading to Bluesky, further fragmenting people’s social media graphs when a functioning protocol already exists.

The term “Health care seeking behaviour” is well defined as “any action undertaken by individuals who perceive themselves to have a health problem or to be ill for the purpose of finding an appropriate remedy.”
It’s used to understand and research positive behaviour change in the context of illness to achieve better health outcomes.
Seeing many accounts on social media becoming avoidably upset about this phrase being used by NSW Health Dept appropriately in the context of .

Reminded today of the paper published in Nature in 2022, with John Conly as coauthor, measuring the quantity of exhaled virus laden aerosols by having study participants talk into a plastic bag, and how comments on the article by @linseymarr challenging the validity of the method were ignored.

This part of the message should be emphasised.
We need a cultural shift where we take steps to reduce risk to those around us when we’re unable to work from home when sick.
COVID-19 isn’t the only communicable disease for which wearing a when :

  1. sick or
  2. a close contact of someone unwell at home

may help reduce transmission.

“Vapes were sold to governments & communities around the world as a therapeutic good: a product that could help hardened smokers kick the habit.
If vapes are therapeutic goods then it is entirely appropriate that Australia should regulate them as therapeutic goods, instead of allowing them to be sold alongside chocolate bars in convenience stores, often down the road from schools.
One in 6 high school students, & 1 in 4 young Australians aged between 18 & 24 are vaping.”

“While we respectfully acknowledge the impact of an artist's work, focusing more on their contributions rather than their untimely demise helps honor their memory positively.”
