North Carolina's House has rejected the anti-mask bill! The bill will now go through a compromise process, which could include re-adding a health exemption.

More work needs to be done, but this shows that advocacy is making a difference. Keep going!

I'm more of a reader than a writer in 'Mastodon Space' but today I bring you something that those people I follow may not have heard of: what's likely to be the first attempt at a space suit, designed as early as 1936 in Spain. It was to be tested with a hot air balloon but unfortunately the whole thing had to be scrapped due to the Civil War. One piece of the original suit has now been found. In Spanish but Google Translate does the trick.

Half of Amazon warehouse workers struggle with food and housing costs.

A third of the workers have had to rely on at least one government assistance program.

Amazon's stock hit an all time high in April. Jeff Bezos is now worth $203 billion.

Effects of the design of operating rooms/theatres on safety is vastly underestimated . In this new study we looked at improving the delays for calling for help using an emergency buzzer by making it more visible using a red line from the ceiling to the buzzer.
Installing the line more than halved the number of times calling for help was delayed.

19 minutes of up to date information about the bird flu outbreak in the US:

https://johnshopkinssph.libsyn.com/bonus-an-update-on-bird-flu-in-the-us

Notable:
There was a reassortment event after the virus was in cows and it now spreads easily among 19 different mammals (apparently not human mammals at this time?) with high mortality.

There are multiple routes for transmission from cow to human (incl RAW MILK - caution) and they aren’t actively monitored at this time (😱).

Well, the dirtbag trial lawyers in Colorado managed to propose such a disastrous series of ballot initiatives that would destroy healthcare in Colorado that they got everyone to agree to create a new wrongful death award and drastically increase non-economic damage caps. In short, patients get almost nothing more, costs of practicing medicine go up, and lawyers steal more from sick people. Nothing gets safer.

mcnado,
@mcnado@mstdn.social avatar

Doctors make mistakes. There’s an entire process in Colorado for dealing with it so they don’t keep making mistakes. Thing is, lawsuits don’t stop these from happening. What does is a robust, and protected, clinical quality improvement process, a strong medical board, and public reporting. I don’t have a problem with people being able to seek reasonable compensation if a doc does something inexcusable, but the vast majority of malpractice suits aren’t that.

The rate of remote work in the EU rose from 11.1% in 2019 to 20% in 2022.

The use of digital tools and the possibility to work remotely can carry the risk of an ‘always-on' culture. We want to ensure workers’ rights and well-being are prioritised in this age.

That’s why this week we launched the first-stage consultation of European social partners on fair telework and the right to disconnect.

You receive a call on your phone.
The caller says they're from your bank and they're calling about a suspected fraud.

"Oh yeah," you think. Obvious scam, right?

The caller says "I'll send you an in-app notification to prove I'm calling from your bank."

Your phone buzzes. You tap the notification This is what you see.

Still think it is a scam?

No, that isn't what VAERS is. It has nothing to do with compensation. When your main qualification for being tapped as a VP candidate is that you’re the ex-wife of a billionaire I understand the bar is low, but at least try to keep the antivax conspiracy theory scapegoats straight. 🙊

The following post can be read 2 ways.

  1. As written
  2. Laden with expletives & name-calling directed at the deliberately misinforming group determined to convince you that SARS-CoV-2 was an entirely new form of biology & that immunity did not or could not result from it.
mackayim2022,
@mackayim2022@mastodon.social avatar

This overview deliciously confirms what some of us have been trying so hard to communicate for a long time now. Infection by SARS-CoV-2 - or vaccination with a SARS-CoV-2 active ingredients - produces real, solid, functional immunity.
